Masters of the Universe (2026) review
I was never a big fan of Masters of the Universe to be honest. In that way maybe a new entry would be the perfect starting point and truth be told this is actually a solid attempt at bringing He-Man, Skeletor and the rest of the gang to the big screen. The story and setup is pretty simple as it tells the tale a young mans ascend to the throne of his Kingdom named Eternia. It’s not all plain sailing however as when he is young Skeletor a hooded figure with just a skull for a face invades and takes over. The young boy along with a sword that is called The Sword of Power are teleported off Eternia onto Earth where they end up getting seperate and for many a years unable to find one another.
On Earth and we meet Adam who has been living a pretty standard life for almost 15 years. We see him do variois daily things like going on dates only to ruin them by telling the potential love interest all about his upbringing on Eternia to his daily job it's a good way to connect to the character naturally and while silly and goofy it works and it works pretty well. Adams luck finally changes when he gets a call saying someone has his sword which he had posted about online, it's in a comic book store and after a pretty awkward retrevial process Adam ends up returning to Eternia before long as his past literally comes to Earth to find him.
The beginning of the big summer blockbuster season is always a yearly highlight when it comes to movies. And staring off with this movie while not perfect by any means was a good way to get in the swing of things. Not only is it entertaining but for the most part the visuals are good and the chemistry between the cast is solid as a rock. Jared Leto is the true standout here as Skeletor. Rather than playing the part he lends his voice to the role and he plays it pretty much perfectly balancing between sinister and goofy really well throughout. As for He-Man himself he is quirky and fun and really packs quite the punch once the movie comes to it's close. All in all Masters of the Universe is a good time to be had at the theater just don't go expecting anything truly incredible and you'll have pure popcorn fun.
