How To Train Your Dragon : The Hidden World review

The third and final installment of the How To Train Your Dragon franchise has arrived. But is it a good way to say goodbye to Hiccup and Toothless?? How To Train Your Dragon : The Hidden World is a glorious and vast way to close the franchise and tie it up with a nice neat bow. We start off with Hiccup and co who are now tasked with going out into the world to rescue locked up dragons that are to be killed. They eventually learn of a feared dragon killer that has killed every single Nightfury in existence. So it's up to Hiccup and everyone else to stop him. It's a simple story but it works pretty well. Along for the ride is all the characters from the previous 2 movies and more. Both Hiccup and Toothless end up getting some really good character development here throughout as both ultimately end up with the love of their lives.

The first two movies were really special and to be honest this is no different. Toothless is as lovable as ever. And the new Nightfury dragon that gets introduced plays off of him so well. Hiccup rises up to be chief of his village and in turn really gets closer and closer to Astrid the no nonsense female lead that plays well against Hiccup's knucklehead side. But given this is the third movie I expected more from their relationship. It doesn't seem like they even like each other at times. Especially in a first half that is a bit slow placed at times. Some jokes don't quite hit their marks and the villain is about as cliche as they come. But that doesn't really matter as both Hiccup and Toothless are as lovable a duo as ever and will give you the biggest grin on your face time after time.

How To Train Your Dragon : The Hidden World is flawed sure but it is a grand farewell to Hiccup and Toothless. A journey that started almost a decade ago now. With enough jokes to entertain and a finale that is grand and emotional. This is as good as a farewell as they two characters have earned and one that wraps up one of the best trilogies this decade.
