Nope review

Image
Be warned there will be SP OILERS* inv olved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. Written and Directed by Jordan Peele Nope is his latest movie and it is very impressive indeed. The story of Nope follows two siblings running a horse ranch in California. They end up discovering something equally wonderful and terrifying. The story isn't anything mindblowing but it comes to fruition in such a way that just makes it work on so many levels. Like Get Out and Us before it Nope is a masterfully crafted horror / thriller with immense pacing. It's location is eerily quiet leaving much to the imagination both of the characters and the audience.  Familiar Jordan Peele faces are here mainly in the form of Daniel Kaluuya whose performance is very subtle showing little emotion. Keke Palmer on the other hand is loud, brash and so much fun to watch. The siblings's relationship is one of the true highlights of the movie. As ...

Bullet Train

Image
What do you get when you put a trained assassin, a spoiled princess, two brothers and a whole lot of interesting on a mysterious package on a bullet train? well this movie. Bullet Train stars Brad Pitt and is a wild, chaotic ride aboard a bullet train through Tokyo as Pitt's character (Ladybug) is tasked with retrieving a case aboard a bullet train and get out ASAP. He is an unlucky assassin as pretty much everything he touches either turns up dead or something else. Once aboard the train the movie really kicks into gear almost immediately as we're introduced to some truly great characters like brothers Lemon and Tangerine, The Wolf and Ladybug who I already mentioned.  Bullet Train is fast paced, high octane action from the outset and is one of the most enjoyable movies you will see this year. There's nothing left to the imagination here in a movie that is ultra violent, very funny and way over the top silly at times but it all works and comes together to make up quite t...

DC League of Super-Pets review

Image
DC League of Super-Pets is quite the interesting movie in a sense that when it tries to be a super-hero movie it is at it's best but when it tries to be a straight up comedy it just falls flat on it's face. There really is no in between and that's disappointing as there is some good ideas here involving not just the Super-Pets themselves but also the Justice League and even Lex Luthor. That's not to say the comedy is all bad however as Kevin Hart and The Rock do offer some funny moments as Krypto and Ace respectively. Speaking of Krypto the movie centers around him and his relationship with the Man of Steel himself Superman. The two are pretty much always together much so to the point where we see both Superman and Krypto saving citizens and the like. The relationship takes a sour turn for Krypto when Lois Lane enters the scene and takes the attention of Superman away from his beloved pooch and onto her. It's an interesting concept one I did like for the most part...

Thor: Love and Thunder review

Image
The latest MCU movie has arrived in Thor: Love and Thunder directed once again by Taika Waititi. After the success that was Thor Ragnorak and what everything else in between can this 4th outing for the God of Thunder be worthy? Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor Odinson who after a barrage of things having happened to him leaves behind his Guardian friends to go find himself. His plan is thrown into flux when a new threat emerges in Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher who opens the movie with a backstory that fuels the character but ultimately it's never touched upon again until the ending of the movie which really hurt the overall character and narrative. Infact the character who showed some promise in the trailers is reduced to nothing really, at times Bale plays it really menacing which is where the movie is at its best but there's other times where he is so over the top it's almost like watching a cartoon villain. There's zero balance which was very disappointi...

The Flash 8x20 : Negative (2) review

Image
Be warned there will be SP OILERS* inv olved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. The eight season of The Flash has come to a close and with it we got the final showdown between The Flash and Reverse Flash, the return of a loved one and a look at what's coming down the track. The episode begins right where last weeks ended as The Reverse Flash is re-born. With Iris dead the anger, frustration and sheer hatred he feels for Thawne comes to fruition even more here as he begins to use his lightning on him with a fierce look on his face. Barry's kids Nora and Bart show up and tell him to stop that by doing this it'll make him no better than Reverse Flash. Barry stops but Thawne promises to kill everyone that Barry loves including his children. We're soon back at Star Labs as after talking with Bart and Nora we learn that this version of Thawne is the last in existence which was quite shocking truthfully. He's never tr...

Superman & Lois 2x15 : Waiting for Superman review

Image
Be warned there will be SP OILERS* inv olved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. The second season of Superman and Lois has come to a close and with it we got complete and utter destruction of Ally Alston and her power, an intriguing new narrative to do with John Henry Irons for the future and a look at what's to come for Clark Kent, Superman and the rest of the Kent family. The episode opens up with a message from Chrissy as she tells everyone to remain home and stay with their families. It's a move that while comforting it's really got no use for everyone as the Earth still fades in and out of existence as Ally continues her merging process. People begin to swap places as Lois vanishes before turning up on the Bizarro world while her other half turns up at the Kent farm essentially swapping places. It's not just Lois who vanishes either as her dad does too and even Kyle Cushing a bit later on. At the end of la...

The Black Phone review

Image
Child abduction. It's a truly terrifying thing to even think about but with this new horror movie from director Scott Derrickson. It tells the chilling story of a child kidnapper who is called ''The Grabber'' he's almost like a boogeyman of the area with tales of him being told between children at the local school. It's a pretty small town and word travels fast as the legend grows and the body count of missing children gets higher and higher things soon take an even more sinister turn when The Grabber's latest victim actually fights back or at least attempts to. The Black Phone is a dark and twisted horror / thriller. It does take quite a bit to get going which is the only real complaint I had with the movie as a whole. The opening 30 or so minutes is a bit of a slog but it does build on it's characters well which plays into you caring about them later.  Ethan Hawke who plays The Grabber is truly terrifying in his role. He's far too calm to the...
