Superman & Lois 2x15 : Waiting for Superman review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
The second season of Superman and Lois has come to a close and with it we got complete and utter destruction of Ally Alston and her power, an intriguing new narrative to do with John Henry Irons for the future and a look at what's to come for Clark Kent, Superman and the rest of the Kent family. The episode opens up with a message from Chrissy as she tells everyone to remain home and stay with their families. It's a move that while comforting it's really got no use for everyone as the Earth still fades in and out of existence as Ally continues her merging process. People begin to swap places as Lois vanishes before turning up on the Bizarro world while her other half turns up at the Kent farm essentially swapping places. It's not just Lois who vanishes either as her dad does too and even Kyle Cushing a bit later on. At the end of last weeks episode we saw John Henry Irons just floating in the vaccum of space after he tried to stop Ally and destroy the portals between both worlds. He was unsuccessful as his attempts to stop Ally resulted in him being blasted into the void of space all as his daughter was listening into him and monitoring his vitals. We pick up with him again and he is still in the void of space but Natalie steps up once again and decides to go inside of the portal to save her father. He somehow manages to get a message to her just as she was about to leave as he says he wants her to bring her escape pod so that they can get out of the void and back home. More on this a bit later on.
Back at the Kent farm and none other than Tal-Rho shows up declaring that he is here to help his brother and family in their time of need. He goes to take on Ally but is easily overpowered and drained of his power so much that Jordan hears his cries of anguish from the Kent Farm. Jordan steps up and saves Tal the two arriving back at the farm. This is when Clark says the only one that can stop Ally is him and he has a plan. To fully regain his power and stop Ally he suggests that Tal-Rho throw him into / onto the sun. It's basically a suicide mission but it's a mission that needs to be undertaken regardless. Tal agrees and it's not long before Superman has his outfit on and the two are heading towards the sun. Superman gets the push he needs and is tossed into the sun where power surges through him as we get flashes of him with Lois, the boys and more. Will this be enough to regain his power and stop Ally once and for all?
The episode draws to a close as Natalie enters the portal and is with her dad once again this time they're both wearing their suits. Ally notices them which can only mean a bad ending but faith is smiling upon them as on the sun Superman has regained his power and is seemingly even more powerful than ever before. He flies straight towards Ally and easily overpowers her placing her hand on his chest as he glows with power flowing out of him. Superman ends up splitting Ally into two as she is no longer merged. Placing her in confinement the Parasite is defeated but it's not over yet. Superman has still got to do something about the Bizarro planet to which he does as he flies around it multiple times before finally punching the ground which causes the entire planet to collapse and evaporate all as the power of Superman is really shown at it's highest form here. Superman is soon back on Earth in Smallville arriving to a round of applause as a giant celebration takes place for the world's greatest superhero. It's a giant affair with so much going on from kids dressed as Superman to even kids dressed as Steel (John Henry Irons) it's a great way to showcase these hero's in the manner that they deserve. The episode isn't over yet as there's still more to come as first back at the farm the boys are greeted with gifts from uncle 'Tal' who has gifted them a car each. The boys are overjoyed as you can imagine as that was quite the gift. As for John Henry Irons we see him at a cafe where none other than Diggle walks in. He hands John a file before stating that he wants to learn why this Earth's version of John Henry was killed. Very intriguing indeed. However this opens up a problem as with this and something stated earlier it's been confirmed that this show isn't a part of Earth-Prime which means that this show is not connected to The Flash or Stargirl any longer. It once was but now it's not which is an odd choice for sure. It does open up things to be less connected and more free but it's something I will have to get used to overtime. The episode and season finally end with the Kent family who are out on a boat. It turns out Clark has found / created a new Fortress of Solitude in the middle of the ocean. It isn't just a Fortress for him as he says it's for every member of the family. A fitting end for what has been a very impressive season.
And there you have it. Season 2 of Superman and Lois is all wrapped up. A worth follow up to a first season that was very impressive. Not everything was perfect this season especially the villain as Ally Alston (Parasite) didn't really pose any real threat once Superman regained his power from the sun. She was easily defeated but that's not what this season was all about was it? Ally was more of a mental challenge in a sense. She was a physical challenge too mind but she was a lot more subdued. One of my favorite things this season was this shows ability to showcase the more human side of Superman without his powers. It's an essential part of the character and something that I felt like the movies have been lacking in. Tyler Hoechlin really knocked it out of the park again as Clark Kent / Superman and he is very quickly becoming my favorite iteration of the character. John Henry Iron's role this season was a lot more family driven which after what happened at the end of season 1 with his daughter showing up made sense and I was perfectly okay with. Both he and daughter Natalie were great together and helped Superman on more than one occasion this season. As for the boys we saw Jordan really hone into his skills as a young Superman as he was trained by both his grand-father and even Clark. Deep down this show is all about family and it really can get emotional at times this season featuring plenty of emotional and heart tugging moments. It all came to a fine finish and rose to the occasion when it needed to be. Season 2 of Superman and Lois while not perfect was amazing from start to end, out of 15 episodes I reckon 10-14 of them were very impressive with only 1 or 2 being quite generic. A fine outing for Lois and Clark. Here's to season 3 which premieres sometime in January 2023.
