Bring Her Back review

Image
After the huge hit that was Talk To Me which released back in 2022 Directors and real life twins Danny and Michael Philippou are back this time with a deeply disturbing and un relenting horror masterclass. The story follows a brother and sister who after the death of their father are placed into a foster home with a seemingly perfect host played by Sally Hawkins. It's not long however before it comes clear that all is not as it seems and there is something truly demonic and ritual like going on. Bring Her Back is vastly different to Talk To Me in how it handles it's message of grief and how that can mold, shape and change a person. Sally Hawkins is incredible in her role and is easily the stand out here with a performance that is so emotional you can feel her pain and anguish.  There's blood and gore a-plenty which is to be expected given the Director's past in their Youtube videos which were gore and practical effects in a bundence. Here it feels so grotestque and da...

The Fantastic Four : First Steps review

Image
The first family has finally arrived in the MCU. After two FOX sequels and a really terrible attempt at trying to resurrect the IP a decade ago it is now finally the arrival of a Fantastic Four movie worthy of the iconic group of astronaughts / heroes who captured the hearts of millions and millions of people. We all know the heroes involved with the Fantastic Four right?? Mr Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Thing and The Human Torch. All connected and really shining like one big family it's Marvel's first true family orintated story and it really works on pretty much all levels. Not only are the cast fantastic (pun intended) but the visuals and overall humour also all culminatin in what is easily the best MCU movie since Deadpool & Wolverine.  Galactus. It's a word and presence that totally engulfs the cosmos. And the entity is now coming to Earth to consume it to feed his seemingly never ending hunger. It's all setup when the Silver Surfer arrives on Earth he...

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) review

Image
I was never a big fan of the original I Know What You Did Last Summer if I'm being honest. In terms of slasher movies it was a ways down the list paling in comparison to let's say Scream. With that being said it's not almost 30 years later and the Fisherman gets a reboot / sequel hybrid that tells a very similar story with legacy characters peppered in for good measure. If you've seen the original you know the story here, a group of friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident on July 4th. They flee the scene after calling the police and paramedics leaving beind a grisly scene. A year passes and so begins a wave of violence and tragedy as each friend is stalked and picked off one by one.  I always feel that characters are the most important part of a movie like this. A slasher needs likable characters you want to root for to survive and well this movie may have some of the worst characters I've ever seen. All really terrible people full of cringey dialogue an...

Superman (2025) review

Image
And so it begins a new chapter for DC on the big screen. And what better way to kick it all off than with the most iconic superhero of all time Superman. Written and Directed by James Gunn this is not just tonally a James Gunn picture right down to the tiniest detail it is also that in terms of him having a superpower of his own in the ability to handle so many characters at one time. So where to start?? well that's with the new Superman / Clark Kent. A relatively unknown actor named David Corensweat who had been in such things as Pearl and last years excellent Twister movie. He is good as Big Blue but there's just something missing here, he really shines as Superman with a fantastic understanding of the characters morales and what he truly stands for but when he is Clark Kent it just doesn't work and the same can be said for Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane who I just really did enjoy pretty much at all. Her performance was pretty by the numbers which is a shame as I relly ...
