Love Hurts review
When I first saw the trailer for Love Hurts I was genuinely excited to see it. High intensity action and Ke Huy Quan?? I was locked in. And after seeing it I gotta admit not only was it so disappointing but it's a movie that really doesn't know what it wants to be at all. The story follows a real estate salesman played by Quan who has a mysterious past that he predictably ends up being pulled back into. His brother nicknamed Knuckles is a volitile crime lord who intent on getting his brother back into the fold. What follows is 80 minutes of action, comedy, double crosses and love..kinda.
Also along for the ride alongside Ke Huy Quan is Oscar winning actress Ariana Debose and you really wonder how she did get that Oscar with a performance like this. She's so monotone, uninspired and just feels like she's floating through this with such a flat performance. At least in Quan's case his performance is full of energy and boy does he bring the action but for her she barely gets involved in the action which is something that could've really lifted this movie I feel.
Love Hurts is an amalgination of comedy, action and a rom-com and it pretty much fails to be all of them in a mish mash of ideas. The action if fantastic however it's very Jackie Chan esque in its delivery and it does do all of the heavy lifting in this movie. It's the inbetween parts that hamper it all and drag this movie down which is a shame because there could be a really fun action comedy in here it just didn't come to be this time around which is unfortunate.
