  The latest movie from Osgood Perkins Writer / Director of Longlegs comes The Monkey a short story by Stephen King. The story follows a family of twin boys and their mom who after the death of their father are gifted a wind up toy Monkey with some dark and sinister forces behind it. Right off the bat The Monkey shows just how gruesome and gory it is when intenstines begin to fly out of a store owner as the Monkey begins to play it's drum. With each twist of it's wind up section and the final bang of it's drum someone dies in a very vicious manner. The music that follows when the Monkey bangs it's drum will be stuck in my mind for days to come. The Monkey is far more a comedy horror than of Perkin's Longlegs which was at times full blown demonic horror. In that sense it's way more fun to watch and let it all unfold in all it's gory gruesome way.   The fourth Captain America movie has arrived and with a new Captain at the helm will it be as good as the previous outings for this iconic character?? the story this time around focuses on Sam Wilson's efforts to stop an impending war between the USA and Japan while also attemtping to uncover the mystery behind a foiled assassination attempt on the American President Thaddeus Ross now played by Harrison Ford. All things seem to being going well for Sam Wilson as Captain America as the beginning of this movie sees him and the aspiring new Falcon retrieve something of importance. Upon doing so Sam is asked to work with the President and work together to bring back The Avengers in what is now an everchanging world with more and more emerging threats.  Sam, Falcon and an old friend of Sam's who was captured and imprisoned in the US all get invited to the White House by the President.   I was lucky enough to see Heart Eyes a week earlier than it's planned release of Valentine's Day and man what a bloody wild time was had. Slasher themed holiday moives are pretty common. From classics like Halloween to the more recent Thanksgiving it's a solid way of creating and planning these slasher movies around. The latest Heart Eyes is themed around Valentine's Day and it is one of if not the best slashers in quite some time. The story revolves around a serial killer nicknamed the HEK killer (Heart Eyes Killer) who has been terrorizing various cities for several years. Heart Eyes only kills couples in love and now the killer is in Seatlle where our main story takes place. After a really intense killing at the start Heart Eyes really sets itself apart from more recent slashers in the way it builds tension and uses music to enhance the chase sequences.  The foundation of any good slasher movie is having likable characters especially the leads and Heart Eyes absolu...

  When I first saw the trailer for Love Hurts I was genuinely excited to see it. High intensity action and Ke Huy Quan?? I was locked in. And after seeing it I gotta admit not only was it so disappointing but it's a movie that really doesn't know what it wants to be at all. The story follows a real estate salesman played by Quan who has a mysterious past that he predictably ends up being pulled back into. His brother nicknamed Knuckles is a volitile crime lord who intent on getting his brother back into the fold. What follows is 80 minutes of action, comedy, double crosses and love..kinda. Also along for the ride alongside Ke Huy Quan is Oscar winning actress Ariana Debose and you really wonder how she did get that Oscar with a performance like this. She's so monotone, uninspired and just feels like she's floating through this with such a flat performance.   Based upon the children's graphic novel of the same name Dogman is a visual delight filled with great humour, pacing and a whole lot of heart. The story follows a half man, half dog who after the death of his owner has his head stiched onto the head of this dog's once owner Greg. In an instant Dogman is born and he becomes an overnight sensation in the city. His job? to protect and serve but to foil the plan of Petey the Cat a treachours villain who will stop at nothing to take over the world while also creating a clone of himself to aid him It's very early Saturday morning cartoon and it just works on so many levels.  While being a movie for kids Dogman shouldn't be strictly for kids as there is a lot to admire here for all ages. The visuals literally pop off the screen with such a unique visual style with various letters, names and other things appearing on screen at all times.   Ranking the 10 films nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards is something I have always personally done myself over the years. Each year I take the time to watch all 10 nominated and then rank them accordingly to my own liking. This year is no different but I thought I'd add it here to the blog just to spice things up a little. I have now seen all 10 movies and will rank them below. I hope you enjoy.  1) Anora - Was there ever any doubt?? my personal favorite movie of 2024 Anora was a remarkable piece of cinema, so utterly flawed in it's characters and depiction of the sex / adult industry it was a real eye opener and something I didn't see myself liking as much as I did before hand. Mikey Madison was a revelation as the titular characte of Anora (Ani) and her story / journey was something truly remarkable. And that among many, many other things is why it's my favorite of the 10 Best Picture nominees and something I would really love to see win. Fingers cross...

  From the writers from the best horror movie of the decade in my opinion Barbarian comes Companion a story about love, death and betrayal. Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid star as a couple on a weekend getaway that turns bloody and chaotic when an AI Companion turns haywire. First of all just let me say that this movie isn't on the same level as Barbarian nor is it anywhere near the stratosphere of Barbarian. Companion is a pityful, unfunny quite lazy and uninspired horror / comedy satire about AI and the pitfalls of it.  I don't know where to even begin with Companion. Firstly the movie and it's 'twist' was totally ruined by the trailer totally ruining the main premise and underlining narrative. It felt like I had seen the majority of the movie before even actually seeing it. So I got problems with that, performance wise it's pretty poor too. I will say that Sophie Thatcher is fantastic though. Her cadence and the way she carries herself is easily the best part ...
