The Wolfman (2025) review

When I first heard there was gonna be another Wolfman movie I didn't take much notice or real interest in it. Even more so I got that feeling when I saw that Blumhouse was involved since their recent track record hasn't exactly been great when it comes to horror moives i.e The Excorcist Believer and the like. But now after seeing The Wolfman I got to say it's not that bad. Granted it's not exactly anything to truly write home about but it's quite solid and offers a somewhat good backstory and conclusion.

The story of the Wolfman follows a young boy named Blake who lives with his father out on a farm in Oregan county. With his father being very strict he teaches his boy how to survive in the woods. One day while out hunting they come across something sinister and after hiding in a nearby hunting unit the father gets a good look at what they're facing in his sniper rifle scope. Back at home and Blake over hears his father taking out a man ''with a wolf'' face to someone over a radio. Fast forward 30 years into the future and Blake now married and having a daughter with his wife Charlotte he gets a letter saying that his father has been declared dead this leaving him the entire farm and estate. The family journey there only to be met with the same sort of creature that Blake and his father encountered when he was young.

The Wolfman has a good solid base for it's narrative. What it's sorely lacking in however is any sort of real suspense and atmosphere. It feels very generic in that aspect which is unfortunate because if it had at least one of those things this could've been something really great. As for the effects they're fine nothing too amazing or too awful in my opinion. By the time the credits begin to roll you won't feel like anything major has happened or changed but you did have a somewhat enjoyable time. The Wolfman is not the travesty I expected it to be but it does have some flaws. Enjoyable-ish!
