Superman and Lois 4x7 : Just A Regular Guy review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it
After last weeks remarkable episode of Superman and Lois you'd think there'd be a drop in quality for just a little bit but wow this episode just blew me away and for so many different reasons than the last episode. We begins in a fantastic way as Clark narrates various moments in the beginning of his career as Superman in Metropolis. We see him running down allies, turning corners and ultimately removing his suit to reveal the Superman suit. We even got a callback to the pilot episode as Clark's secret really is the most pivotal point of this episode culminating in a truly eye opening moment. Speaking of Clark's secret it is something he has kept pretty much to himself all his life letting in only a handful of people so when his identity was comprised in the fight with Doomsday he now is seen trying to convince the residents of Smallville that he isn't the Man of Steel he's just regular old Clark Kent, he does this is really wholesome ways like pretending to get hurt by a car door shutting on him to the football coach among other various things it's a constrast for sure for what comes later.
Jimmy Olsen. It's a name that this show has long neglected I felt well not anymore as this week finally he turns up in both flashbacks and present day. Him and Clark are friends at work to begin but over time the two bond over the Daily Planet softball team as Clark becomes a master of bunking the ball by hitting it with the very tip of the bat to help the team. All seems to be going swmmingly with Lois loving seeing Clark be part of the team. All of that changes when Clark begins to disappear routinely to do Superman duties. Back at the office and Jimmy puts two and two together confronting Clark suggesting that he is Superman but Clark tells him he is not. But it's clear that Jimmy knows leading to a disconnect between the two.
The episode draws to a close at the Smallville diner where Lois and Clark are seen having dinner with Kyle and Chrissy. The soon to be parents have their eyes on a new home but it's valuation sits at 300k. They obviously don't have that kind of money but their dreams come true when Clark and Lois agree to buy out Chrissy at the Smallville Gazzette so they can go and start their family proper. The celebration is cut short when none other than Candice's dad walks into the diner. The last time he was in the show was I believe early season 3 where Clark basically ran him out of town. Well he's now back and he wants Clark to reveal to everyone in the diner that he is indeed Superman. He even goes as far as to pull a gun on Clark to prove his notion if Clark denies it. Clark attempts to play it all off but once the gun barrel goes off and the bullet is flying towards him Clark takes it upon himself to reveal his true self to the world. He opens his shirt to reveal the Superman suit as the bullet hits the symbol on his chest but it crumbles into a tiny piece. Superman stands before everyone in the diner and it is official the long kept secret of Clark Kent is now out in the open. With this now out in the open the entire world will be talking about Clark, Superman and his entire family. Was it the right thing to do?? probably but one things for sure nothing will ever be the same. Back at the Kent home and Lois suggests that Lex was in prison with Candice's dad which is how he came to know that Clark was Superman so even when he is not present in the episode Lex is still pulling the strings it's brilliant writing and exposition. The episode ends as Clark goes on the Daily Planet live from his home talking about Superman how he came to be and what's next. The episode ends in a pretty wholesome way back at the diner as Jimmy Olsen arrives in Smallville where he and Clark meet and seemingly catch up as the camera pans out as we see the two from the outside chatting. A brilliant end to one of the best ever episodes of this show. From fantastic writing to emotional moments to the other worldy reveal of Clark as Superman this was pretty much perfection from beginning to end. A total opposite to last weeks episode like I said at the beginning but this is just as important and needs to be stuided going forward on how to write and create Superman.
