Superman and Lois 4x6 : When the Lights Come On review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

This weeks episode of Superman & Lois may very well be the most brutal and vicious yet. It opens up with Lex Luthor absolutely furious in his hotel room he is seen smashing up the room, punching the walls all to the point of making his knuckles bleed. After what happened with Doomsday at the end of last weeks episode he is clealy on edge and working on a new plan and said plan gets put into motion rather quickly in this episode. Back at the Kent farm we see that Johnathan has been working pretty hard and is flying all around the world helping people. Jordan isn't really okay with this and it leads to some minor tension with the brothers. As for Lois and Clark they're on reporter duty as they try to connect people to Luthor at the Gazette, people like Otis and other various employees.

It is not long into this episode when the main plot point is revealed to be Lex Luthor attempting to purchase a plot of land so that he can move Luthor corp to Smallville. Pretty much everyone is against this even employees of Luthor corp. As for the residents of Smallville and the owner of the land it takes Lana and Clark to convince her to not sell to Luthor in any capacity citing his extreme business dealings and vendetta against the Kent family. It leads to a really intense meeting of all involved in the supposed deal inside a resturant where Lex offers 10 million dollars for the land but he is still refused which causes him to leave in a huff but something still doesn't feel right about the whole situation.

The episode draws to a close as Lex who had previously met with Mayor Lana to discuss his potential move to Smallville puts together a home invasion on the Lang household where he sends Otis to ''silence'' Lana. Lex even has the security system switched so that Lana can't escape. She does end up getting saved by Sarah who knocks out Otis with a bat but Lana is shook up and Clark sees and hears her trauma as the whole family go to be with her and Sarah. Feeling nothing but anger for Lex Clark takes it upon himself to go out into the main area of Smallville where the diner is and calls out Lex as rain and thunder bellows. Lex sees Clark as he looks out his window and within seconds the two come face to face. Clark says that he and his family will end Luthor but Luthor has a plan for every situation and presses a button to turn all the lights in the area off replacing them with red lights depowering Clark instantly. What follows is a brutal, vicious fist fight where Clark and Luthor do batlle in the rain the two trading blows to the face and stomach. It's a really intense street fight which Clark wins but at what cost?? he has his hands wrapped around Luthor's throat but doesn't end it as his entire family watch on from the street behind the lights as it would've affected the boys powers too. This entire scene and set up was fantastic. Not only was it brutal and visceral but it made perfect sense and leads into the ending where Luthor is seen stiching himself up. His assistant Amanda walks in and agrees to stand by him no matter what. As she stiches him up she says that he needs a suit of his own which can only mean one thing. Lex is getting his war suit soon and that is going to be special for sure. This episode was brillaint arguably the best this season with so many incredible moments peppered throughout. This show can do no wrong and is one of the very best Superman adaptations ever put to screen. Roll on the next episode!
