The Wedding Slasher

Image
Opening scene  The camera pans over a picturesque countryside, the sun setting behind rolling hills. A grand, old mansion stands in the distance, adorned with twinkling fairy lights and elegant decorations. The scene is set for a beautiful wedding. Cut to: Inside the mansion, guests are mingling, laughter and chatter filling the air. The bride, Emma, a radiant young woman in her late twenties, is getting ready in an ornate bridal suite. Her best friend and maid of honor, Lucy, is helping her with the final touches. EMMA: Nervously adjusting her veil. "I can't believe this day is finally here." LUCY: Smiling reassuringly. "You look stunning, Emma. Everything is perfect." Suddenly, the lights flicker, and a chill runs through the room. Emma and Lucy exchange uneasy glances. EMMA: "Did you feel that?" LUCY: Laughing it off. "It's just nerves. Come on, let's get you to the altar." As they leave the room, the camera lingers on a shadowy ...

Deadpool & Wolverine review

Image
Arise Marvel Jesus. Ryan Reynolds returns as the Merc with a Mouth. The role he was born to play. Some time has passed since we last saw Deadpool but trouble soon comes a knocking once again and this time literally as the TVA arrive on his doorstep. Wade Wilson's timeline is dying and he is the only one to save it right?? well technically no but he takes it upon himself to become the savior of the timeline thus Marvel Jesus is born. Right off the bat Deadpool & Wolverine is much more violent than any other MCU movie probably combined. It's utterly vicious in it's nature with blood and body parts engulffing the screen in true Deadpool opening style.  The title of this movie is a dead giveaway for what is to come sure but what does come is a Logan / Wolverine like any before it. After he and Deadpool are tossed into the void which is basically a garbage dump for unwanted people both powerful and not we get to see a really unique and different take on the character. Befo...

Twisters (2024) review

Image
The original Twister movie was a classic of it's time and it still is a very enjoyable diaster style movie. Fast forward to 2024 and we now have Twisters. More of a second installment rather than a full on reboot Twisters is a fantastic callback to old school summer blockbusters of old full of charm, over the top action and stunts and a really likable cast. Plot wise Twisters is pretty much the same as it's 1996 counterpart as a group of friends attempt to get inside of a moving tornado and read it's contents with technology. The movie starts off with an EF5 tornado and it's here where we meet the main character Kate who is a chaser of tornados. After a tragic accident some 5 years pass before she is called back into action by an old friend who needs help with a new way of reading tornados.  Daisy Edgar Jones stars as Kate and she is incredibly likable here as his Glenn Powell as a guy named Tyler a cowboy turned tornado wrangler as he deems himself. From live streami...

Longlegs review

Image
Every now and again a horror movie comes along being branded as the scariest and best of it's genre in decades. Longlegs falls directly into that bracket as both the marketing for this movie and the reviews before official release have been nothing but stellar. So with that being said just how is Longlegs?? well it's quietly creepy for sure but it fails to stick any form of landing at least not for me. Maika Monroe stars as a detective on the case of a mysterious serial killer who seemingly kills families without even being present when the murders take place. All that is left behind is the mutilated bodies of the victims and a series of notes with encrypted code on them.  Longlegs's opening really sets the mood right away and is absolutely bone chilling. It also sets up the mysterious killer played by Nicholas Cage perfectly. Everything from the way he speaks to his pale white skin to his entire face not being shown is so well done. After the opening the movie's paci...

MaXXXine review

Image
Writer and Director Ti West's trilogy of movies consiting of X, Pearl and now MaXXXine comes to a close with a tale of revenge, murder and the weight of the choices you make. Mia Goth returns this time under a new name and alias of Maxine Minx a wannabe movie star who is big in the Adult entertainment world. The movie opens up with her audtioning for a movie role in a scene that beautifully showcases the talents of Goth. Once things begin to kick into gear slowly but surely MaXXXine begins to unfold and reveal it's underside which is one of a seedy LA in the 1980's which is overrun by sex, drugs and murder all in the form of someone called 'The Night Stalker'  Visually both for the eyes and the ears MaXXXine perfectly captures the 80's aesthetic. It's dirty, grimey and totally got that deep neon vibe going for it. Mia Goth is the real star here and it shows as much like Pearl she carries the movie effortlessly. I'd say her performance in Pearl is a bit...

Kinds of Kindness review

Image
After the success of Poor Things earlier this year in what is arguably one of if not my favorite movie of 2024 thus far Director Yargos Lanthimos reunites with Emma Stone for a trippy, mind bending triptych of stories. Each told in it's own unique manner with all actors portraying different characters in each story. Right off the bat I got to say that Kinds of Kindess is a lot to take in and digest. It's really beefy and full of dark, twisted humour and images. At times it's kind of like what is even happening here while others it's genuinely funny. That's not to say everything is great here because it isn't as each story tries almost too hard to be upfront and direct with a strange under belly lurking beneath it all.  The cast are fantastic throughout from Emma Stone to Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley to Jesse Plemons who is just brilliant here in all three of his roles. In true Yargos Lanthimos it's full of vulgar language and a lot of nudity and sex. ...
