The Garfield Movie review

Image
Who doesn't love Garfield right?? the lovable organge tabby cat who hates Mondays but loves Lasgange and food in general. The original cartoon series used to be watched by myself a lot when I was a kid so after a rocky set of live action / animated movies back in the 00's could this be a true Garfield movie?? unfortunately it's got to be a no as The Garfield Movie doesn't have any of the charm, hilarity or genuine feeling of the original. Chris Pratt voices Garfield and does a fine job infact he's really good for the most part. It's the rest of the movie where things either don't work or just fall completely apart.  The Garfield Movie's opening act is one of heartache and abandondemtn as a young kitty Garfield is abandoned by his father who later we learn is a big cat named Vic. Turns out he was a part of a gang of cats who went around robbing places and the like. So when he turns up again he gets his son intertwined in a heist which he has to take par...

Furiosa : A Mad Max Saga review

Image
There's nothing like the roar of an engine. It's enough to get your heart pumping and racing at full speed. George Miller returns to the Mad Max franchise with yet another master class in filmaking and spectacle. Set before 2015's Fury Road Furiosa tells the story of how a young Furiosa came to be an angel of death in the wasteland. From humble beginnings as a young girl taking apples from a tree to feared nomad warrior her journey is one of emotion, betrayal and deceit. Anya Taylor Joy is pretty much flawless as Furiosa. Filling the shoes of Charlize Theron who made the character iconic was no mean feat but Taylor Joy does is superbly in a role featuring little to no spoken dialouge for the most part. Her presence is commanding and she really does amp things up in the action department in some incredible setpieces.  I loved Mad Max Fury Road so when this movie was announced I was super excited, seeing the trailer only got me more aboard the hype train and now having fina...

The Strangers : Chapter one review

Image
The original 2008 Strangers movie was a fascinating horror movie. It felt fresh and unique at the time and still holds up quite well today. The sequel however which released in 2018 completely missed the mark and went down a more slasher type route which just didn't really work. So here we are in 2024 with a prequel to the original movie but not just a prequel it is the first part in a trilogy of movies. Our movie begins as we meet our two main characters Maya and Ryan a couple celebrating their 5 year anniversary. On a road trip around the country their car breaks down in a small town which immediately something feels off about.  Panic soon ensues when they are forced to spend the night at a local Air BnB as their car is being repaired. Said panic comes when Maya is left alone as Ryan goes to retrieve something from his car and get some food for them both. Sounds and creaks linger throughout the house as it's clear that there is something or someone inside the house. It tur...

IF review

Image
Imaginary Friends. Every kid has had a least once in their life right?? they're there for you when you feel alone, down or need escape from reality. John Krasinski writes and directs a tale about Imaginry Friends or IF's as they're called in this movie. Ryan Reynolds leads a pretty all star cast which includes Krasinki himself as the father of a young girl who uses her imagination to help her through not only her mothers untimely passing but her dads approaching heart surgery. Cailey Fleming shines as a 12 year old girl named B. She manages to bring everything together in IF and hold's it together especially when things do get quite emotional.  A strong message is engullfed inside of IF. One of never letting your imgination pass, a one of never forgetting the past and ultimately coming together to overcome difficulties and uncertainty. The imagination on show here could've been a little more when it comes to showcasing the true power of what can happen when you pu...

The Fall Guy (2024) review

Image
Stuntmen. The unsong hero's of Hollywood and big blockbuster action. Based on a TV show of the same name The Fall Guy follows the best stuntment in the game Colt Seavers who after suffering a seemingly career ending back injury is flung back into the action when the main star of big blockbuster goes missing. Ryan Gosling shines as Colt Seavers in a role that he was born to play. He's charming, witty and so cool he'll just about melt your heart. Set for the most part in Australia The Fall Guy bolsts not just an incredible cast but some top tier action.  Ryan Gosling is quickly turning into the quite the action star with this movie further soldifying him as an action hero. Here his co-star is Emily Blunt and the two play well off of one another with a relationship that goes far back before Colt's back injury. Once he is flung back into the action the two reconnect and while cheesey it is believable and very entertaining.  The Fall Guy is hands down the best action movie...
