Argylle review

Henry Cavill's first big movie post Superman and The Witcher is a super spy thriller unlike any other you'll see all year long. Sporting a pretty stellar cast including Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, John Cena, Dua Lipa and more Argylle tells the story of well..Argylle a super spy who is on the trail of something called the master file that will aid in helping him and his team bring down an entire orginization. There's just one problem. Argylle is actually just a character in a series of books penned by someone named Elly Conway (Dalls Howard) who at the beginning of the movie is working on her fifth book in the Argylle series. Her life is turned upside down when life imitates art as the world of spies and espionage come crushing down all around her. That's about as much as I can say when it comes to the story as anything further would be pretty much in the spoiler zone.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn Argylle is highly entertaining and wildly chaotic. The cast all do a great job in a plot that has so manu twists and turns throughout it can be hard to keep pace with. With that being said it does pay homage to spy media of old with it's almost conviluted plot featuring twists and layers upon layers of character moments. It's very hectic so if you go into this hoping for an intellectual spy thriller think again. I will say that there is two scenes here involving a makeshift pair of knife iceskates and colored tear gas turned into an almost romantic dance moment it's pretty surreal at times.

Argylle is a strange movie to talk about and review. It's certainly not going to be for everyone and it's pretty dumb at points but boy is it entertaining in such a big bold way. The cast are great and really ham it up in a script that is as weird and wonderful as you'd expect from everyone involved behind the scenes. Arguably this is the most fun I've had in the theater so far this year just make sure to leave your thinking cap off when going to see Argylle and you'll love it!
