The Iron Claw review

I'm a big professional wrestling fan. Have been for a long time now, so when the tale of the Von Erich family was going to be adpated into a feature length film best believe I'd be there seeing it on the biggest screen possible. Fast forward some time and I was lucky enough to see The Iron Claw a week before release. Starring Zac Efron who puts in a career best performance here The Iron Claw follows the tragic, hearbreaking story of the Von Erich family consisting of four brothers all chasing their dreams of becoming professional wrestlers just like their father.

Being a fan of wrestling makes this movie incredibly satisfying in a way as you're able to immediately point out and know exactly who and what is taking place before your eyes. Names like Harley Race and Ric Flair are legendary in their own right and seeing them being showcased was thrilling. The sport of wrestling is truly unforgiving and needs to something you dedicate your entire body to and that's what the Von Erichs do. With that being said the first half of this movie is great at showcasing this as the brothers claw (pun intended) and fight their way to try and become the World Heavyweigh Champion something that their father just couldn't quite grasp himself. The second half is truly heartbreaking however and showcases the dark side of the ring as tragedy and sadness follow the brothers. If you know the story of the Von Erich curse you'll know exastly what I mean.

Overall The Iron Claw is fantastic. It's a beautiful yet tragic tale of brothers and the willingness to always be there for one another. The bond between all 4 brothers feels really genuine and honest and it's all lead by Zac Efron as the oldest brother Kevin Von Erich who really does his best career work here. His physical transformation really needs to be seen to be believed and his performance is both heroic and upsetting. This movie packs quite the emotional punch that's for sure so make sure you're prepared for that. A throughouly enjoyable time that I would recommend to all people whether they're fans of wrestling or not.
