Holiday theme slasher movies apart from say Halloween never truly have worked for me over the years. Black Christmas?? nope, Krampus? absolutely not. Valentine?? don't even go there. So how about Thanksgiving?? a time of celebration and to be thankful for the life one lives can that make a successful transition into the slasher genre?? the answer is absolutely yes it can. Thanksgiving right off the bat gives us one of the best and most chaotic openings to a horror movie in some time. Not only is it chaotic but it is funny, brilliantly paced and sets up what is to follow pretty much perfectly. The story revovles around a group of school kids who after being involved in a black friday massacre inside a giant shopping store are targeted one by one on the first anniversary of the tragedy. It's nothing out of this world when it comes to plot but the characters and overall feeling is what brings and ultimately holds it all together. First off is the many kills which are both vicious and pretty unique. I won't go into detail but the gore level here is pretty high leaving pretty much nothing to the imagination as our killer relentlessly hunts and downs it's victims one by one.
Thanksgiving is wild it is highly entertainig and easily one of the best slashers in quite some time in my opinion. It felt fresh it delivered in buckets of blood and by the time everything is said and done you'll defintely be stuffed.
