SAW X review
Are you ready to play a game?? SAW returns for a tenth installment into the stomach churning franchise and for what it's worth this may be the best sequel of them all. Jigsaw is back and much like previous entries expect blood and gore a plenty. Our story this time around actually takes place between SAW 2 & 3 and follows the infamous John Kramer who having been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer seems to be given the chance of a lifetime when a fellow patient of his cancer group tells him all about a group of doctors who cured him of his cancer which too was terminal. So John sets off to find this mysterious group in the hope of killing his cancer before it kills him. What follows is some of the finest storytelling in the entire SAW franchise. It's interwoven really well throughout with hints of what's to come and what has already happened.
Tobin Bell returns as John Kramer in what is easily his best performance as the character. You actually feel sympathetic for him even though he is a torturer / killer. His reason for killing and doing what he does is questionable for sure but what happens to him in this movie is just as evil as anything he has done. It's a vastly different approach and one I did really appreciate and enjoy especially given how I watched through all SAW movies before seeing this new entry.
SAW X doesn't really re-invent the wheel when it comes to being a SAW movie but it is different enough to really sink your claws into. Tobin Bell is great and the traps are as brutal and visceral as you'd expect leading to limbs flying, heads being cut clean off and even the use of someone's intestine track as a rope. It's not for the weak of stomach at all. That being said for those who are fans of the SAW franchise you'll get exactly what you need from this and proves that it still has a few tricks up it's bloody sleeve yet.
