Blue Beetle review

Blue Beetle is the latest DC hero to get the big screen treatment and for a first time attempt at bringing this character to the screen it is absolutely worth your time and attention. Blue Beetle follows a fresh out of college young man named Jaime Reyes who is very much connected with his family. His whole life is turned upside down however when an all powerful alien like tech named the Scarab falls into his possession which leads to him transforming into the titular hero the Blue Beetle. What follows is total chaos in a sequence that is full of energy just like our hero himself. It's a simple setup and it works really well throughout so much so that this even reduced me to tears on more than one occasions especially because of my love for DC and it's fascinating and gripping lore.

But it's not all emotional stuff here as the action scenes are really well done with a mix of CGI effortlessly laying under amazing and well thought out choreography as Jaime Reyes embraces his true destiny as the Blue Beetle. As for the villains they aren't anything on the level of past DC villains like General Zod or Steppenwolf but compared to what we've gotten recently they are head and shoulders above those. The real star of the show is course Jaime Reyes himself and he is played effortlessly by Xolo Mariduena who not only has the acting chops aplenty but he really kicks it into gear when it comes to action too. The rest of the cast do a bang up job too including George Lopez who almost steals every scene he is in he is hilarious throughout.

Blue Beetle is all about family at it's core and you know what? it's a beautiful message to have and be heard. It blends almost all of it's elements together so well. It is easily the best DC movie in well over a year. This is the DC I love and live for. It's not perfect mind but it's damn sure close. There's also some truly funny scenes throughout and not all jokes land but there is some great and deep moments. I really hope this movie does well at the box office because this world and it's characters deserve to be seen again in the future. Gracias Jaime.
