Barbie review

The Barbie movie has finally arrived in theaters after months and months of build up and hype so can it live up to that hype?? Barbie stars Margot Robbie as your stereotypical Barbie who along with other variations of Barbie live in Barbieland alongside their Ken counterparts. Everything is perfect from the way they live to how they look to how every night is a party in their dream houses. The perfect life all comes crumbling down for Stereotypical Barbie when she begins to experience some rather deep thoughts and her once flawless feet become flat. This leads to her and Ken taking a trip to the real world to find her owner so that she can be restored to her stunning former self. That's the story in a little nutshell and it's fine it works rather surprisingly well actually.

Barbie on paper really shouldn't work as well as it does here as a movie. But yet again as I've said before Greta Gerwig proves her immense talent for writing and directing yet again. Now of course not everything lands including a cringe inducing Synder Cut joke but overall she and her co-writer have crafted a wonderful story about finding yourself and your true meaning in the 'real world' as for the cast they're all great here too even some fun cameos that I won't spoil but needless to say they're a lot of fun. Margot Robbie is pretty much perfection as Barbie her life crisis and the breakdown of everything around her is really well done and she reacts to everything around just as you'd image she would. This role was made for her it really was. But the real star of the show here is Ryan Gosling as Ken who plays the part almost too well. He is constantly chasing Barbie throughout the movie and even follows her into the real world where all hell later breaks loose on Barbieland thanks to his actions and ideas. His performance makes the movie as he steals every single scene he is in he really is that good here.

Barbie is pure poptastic fun. It's full of color and atmosphere from the inside of Barbieland looking like a real doll set literally coming to life to the real world streets of California. For what it's worth I don't think you'll have more fun with any other movie this summer as Barbie has literally taken over the world it seems and rightly so with this instant classic. Far from plastic Barbie is fantastic!
