The Flash review

After many delays, reshuffle of directors and many other things The Flash finally races onto the big screen for the first time. Right off the bat we're tossed into an action packed set-piece that involves The Flash working alongside his fellow hero's to save Gotham City Hospital which will very fun and a fine tribute to what has come and gone the dialogue here especially by Batman is beyond terrible. Not the ending Ben Affleck deserved as Batman that's for sure, I got Justice League 2017 vibes all over again with the line delivery and over silly tone. Once the prologue is put to rest The Flash really kicks into gear as the story revolves around Family and a son's love for his mother. This in turn leads to Barry Allen going back in time to save his mom from being murdered but by doing so he changes both the past and the present all at once, can he get back home and restore things??

Controversy aside I have to admit that Ezra Miller really is outstanding here as The Flash / Barry Allen. Essentially playing two versions of himself he does it effortlessly and ultimately it is HIS movie. You'd expect that given that The Flash is the main star but there is so much more going on throughout that it does get a bit chaotic at points. Effects wise it isn't exactly great as there is a lot of CG being used here and while some look fine some look absolutely horrendous including some of this movie's 'cameos' that while a nice nod to the past of DC movie and TV feel unwarranted and ultimately unnecessary. As for the cast well Ezra is great like I said, Michael Keaton who returns as The Batman is also really good here. He definitely makes the most out of what he is given and does get a good redemption arc. As for Supergirl who is played Sasha Calle she felt really underwhelming to me being used as more of a plot point and purely a stand in for Superman / Henry Cavill. It's a wasted opportunity of seeing The Girl of Steel at her best on the big screen. Sasha Calle is fine but really doesn't exactly get much room to do anything of major note which was disappointing. As for the main villain it is rather lackluster but that being said it makes sense in the overarching story that's being told.

The Flash is an enjoyable ride for sure. In a nutshell it is all over the place, but that being said it is highly enjoyable and at times rather funny. Not the slam dunk of a movie that The Flash deserves for his first solo outing but it's not terrible either. A new era of DC movies now await after the fallout of The Flash so we'll see what happens next. Overall The Flash is worth your time just don't go in expecting anything truly mindblowing which does sort of pain me to say given how much I love The Flash and DC's long list of characters and lore!
