Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse review

Back in 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse released and it was a hugely enjoyable Spider-Man movie that was quite unlike anything that had come before it. So when a sequel was announced and that it was going to be the first of two parts I was both skeptical and excited at the same time but now after seeing Across the Spider-Verse I can say with strong and firm confidence that this is one of if not the greatest Spider-Man movies ever made. It transcends the animation form and is absolutely thrilling from the opening minutes until the very quite tense ending. Sony Animation Studios surely have a massive hit on their hands here and it is well deserved as it's clear the sheer amount of effort and work that went into this movie needs to be rewarded.

From it's stylish comic book sleek look to various different dimensions and lots and I do mean LOTS of different Spider-Men (and women) from throughout space and time the love show for the source material is heartwarming to witness. As for the story is is simply perfect with Miles Morales getting the main spotlight here but really it is as much his movie as it is Gwen Staceys. Their relationship is the true core of the movie and the many ups and downs they go through together are totally believable and equally as memorable.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a game changer of a movie not just when it comes to animation and what is possible in this medium but in comic book movies in general. From it's action and intense comic style to it's characters and strong sense of heart it is a spectacular tribute to the Spider-Man character and it's mythology. This is going to be one of the best movies of the year and we're only in June. This is the new bar going forward and should be shown and remembered time and time again long after it leaves the theater. If you're a fan of Spider-Man or the comic movie formula in general you owe it to yourself to see this!
