The Flash 9x12 : A New World, Part Three review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

The Flash's second last episode ever has come and gone and with it we got a look at the finale and arguably the best and most sympathetic villain on this show in quite some time. The episode opens up with Eddie who at the end of last weeks episode learned that he is indeed alive and well as his memories continued to haunt him and fill his mind. We pick up with him and the CCPD Captain again where he says he is looking for The Flash. As he prepares to leave a big singularity opens up and sucks the Captain in leaving only Eddie with one thing on his mind. Find The Flash! back at Star Labs and turns out Iris still hasn't given birth, Khione says Barry needs to be here but for now he's actually in the future rather than the past. He is in 2049 and as Speedforce Nora turns up her power is dwindling as the Negative Speedforce is beginning to take control of things as there is nobody to stop it and halt it's progress. Speedforce Nora can do no more and leaves everyone with a final warning. If Barry isn't found this timeline will be erased so Team Flash are quick to work!

Back with Eddie and he is in 2049 along with Nora (XS) who we see first down in Star Labs after just returning from patrol. Cecil, Alegra and Chester are all still part of the team here as energy from above in the Flash Museum becomes cause for concern. It is all tied to Eddie as when he arrives in the Museum where sees a whole number of things. The Flash's OG suit among them but most importantly he sees that The Reverse Flash is very much alive even though he sacrificed himself to stop Eobard Thawne from ever existing. It is moments later when another singularity opens up inside the Museum with the a different version of Nora Allen walking out of it offering Eddie a whole new life and purpose if he just steps through. This is when XS turns up and saves Eddie taking him down to Star Labs where she ends up getting affected by the Blue Crystal. It seems as if Nora is helping Eddie to understand everything but really it's all just a further plot to try and get him onside. She says that the singularities appearing are tied to his emotions which I guess does make sense in the grand scheme of things given that whenever he does get emotional things begin to happen.

The episode draws to a close as Barry finally appears in 2049 and right away gets caught in the cross hairs of Nora who is under the Blue Crystal's influence. Barry uses his speed to rush Eddie out of there bringing them both to Iris and Joe's home. Here we get the best scene of the entire episode as you really do feel quite sympathetic for Eddie and how really his life has meant nothing, even in sacrifice it meant nothing and in a way Barry is living the life that he was seemingly destined for. This is when the Crystal calls out to Eddie once again trying to get him to ultimately give in and accept it's gift. Barry has to go pretty quickly however when Cobalt Nora calls out to him threatening people of Central City if he doesn't show. The Flash shows alright and a battle between father and son ensues with The Flash getting the upper hand. But it's not him who stops his daughter it is Cecil who earlier had used her power to transfer her mind into the body of 2049 her. It failed but after a talk with Chester she's back in and sporting a new suit which isn't exactly pleasing on the eye. She uses her power to rip the Crystal entity out of Nora almost banishing it out of existence which isn't the case but it certainly looked that way. Nora is back to her normal self and now it's time for Eddie to either accept the offer of the Crystal or deny it. He decides to accept it which in turn means he will now have the power of the Crystal which hopefully means we see full on Cobalt Blue in the finale. The episode ends as Eddie looks into the Crystal and sees previous Flash speedster villains. We see Reverse Flash, Godspeed, Savitar and even Zoom. Does it mean all of them will also return in the finale?? I certainly hope so. As for this episode it was a major step up from last week and while not perfect or even anything great it was good and showcased Eddie as a really sympathetic villain rather than him outright being evil. A good setup to the finale and overall an enjoyable episode results in The Flash setting up for a final farewell.
