The Flash 9x10 : A New World, Part One review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
The Flash is back for another episode and not only is this the BEST episode this season but for my money it's one of the best episodes period. It starts off in a bit of a mad rush as we see Eddie Thawne return to the show. He is seen getting ready for work at home before arriving at Mercury Labs which is where he seemingly works. It all does tie into the ending of the episode as a new threat is born. The real chunk of this episode is to do with Barry and the Reverse Flash (yes finally!!) as Barry time travels back to the year 2000 seemingly by accident but later we see it's because of a mysterious new force which is extremely powerful. So with Barry in the year 2000 what can he do to get back home and who can he see?? well none other than Joe West who is a cop at CCPD who doesn't know Barry at least not yet in this time period. Barry walks up to him and is acting all suspiciously which raises concerns with Joe. Barry freaks out however when he sees the date which is March 18th 2000 the exact date that Eobard Thawne kills his mom. He leaves CCPD in a bit of a huff and once outside on the sidewalk he notices his parents Nora and Henry Allen on the other side of the walkway. Suddenly Barry is struck by red lightning which of course is the Reverse Flash. He is knocked out onto the road with a car approaching him fast. Henry and Nora rush to his rescue and take him to the hospital which is where Barry wakes up.
At the hospital and Barry says he shouldn't be there. He's in pretty rough shape still but refuses any real treatment. He ends up telling them his name is Bart but they refuse to let him just go without at least getting something to eat. The three go to get pizza at the best reviewed place in the city according to Henry. All of this is quite an emotional moment to be honest and much like a scene later just elevates this episode to such a big height. This is really what The Flash's final season should've been like all along. Barry ends up telling them both that he lost his parents a long time ago and that it hurts almost every other day. He rushes off again soon only to end up being confronted by Eobard Thawne whom Barry thinks is responsible for all of this happening. This time he isn't as he is here to fulfill the fixed point of killing Barry's mom.
The episode draws to a close as both Barry and Thawne have a drink, well Thawne has a drink Barry is seemingly just not in the mood for anything at all. It's a great moment here between two bitter rivals. Barry soon goes back to the hospital to see Henry and Nora again for what is the final time as soon enough he hears a mysterious voice calling out to him. It turns out to be Joe who had earlier at the crime scene where Barry almost got knocked down had picked up a blue crystal which has now taken over him. Barry thinks it's the negative speedforce's new avatar but Joe tells him it is not. He is a force of nature. The two get into a battle which Barry gets the upper hand in but in doing so the blue crystal disappears into thin air as Barry uses his powers to place Joe back in the seat of his police car. So what's next? and how does Barry get home? well it's one of the most fulfilling moments in this show's history especially if you've been watching since the beginning. It's the night of Nora Allen's murder and we see The Flash and Reverse Flash do battle inside of the Allen household. We even see this version of The Flash turn out to be the one who told season 1 version of The Flash to stop and not interfere as he looks on from behind a slightly closed doors to one of the rooms. It's a full circle moment and one that is extremely satisfying indeed. Episode isn't over yet however as when The Reverse Flash races out he loses his speed entirely and is now stuck in this time period as we also know from the past. The Flash doesn't do anything to him rather instead he leaves him there to suffer for his actions. Flash actually doesn't even get much of a chance to stop him as he vanishes into thin air like he did earlier in the episode which began all of this in the first place. The episode comes to a close with Eddie Thawne and much like the opening it's all a bit of a mad rush. He is in his office doing some work when outside lightning begins to strike the skies leaving giant flashes of red lighting reflecting in Eddie's eyes. Not surprisingly Eddie gets struck by the lightning and once he wakes up his file now reads that Eddie Thawne is deceased which leads to him questioning who is Eddie Thawne?? it seems like Cobalt Blue has been born ladies and gentleman. This episode was truly mind-blowing. Given the quality we've gotten this season this was SO good. It paid off so many unanswered questions, brought back characters and introduced a seemingly sinister new villain. I can't believe I'm even saying this but I can't wait for next week's episode which will conclude this two part arc.
