Superman & Lois 3x9 : The Dress review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Superman and Lois is back after a short hiatus and with it we get one of the most emotional episodes this season as for the most part it solely revolves around Clark and Lois along with some intense moments between John Herny and Bruno Mannheim who are at war throughout. The episode begins 17 years in the past at The Daily Planet where we see Clark and Lois talking. A co-worker runs up to Lois informing her that she has been nominated for an award for her journalism. The award is the second highest honor a journalist can get but Lois doesn't seem keen on attending. It all changes when Clark buys her a red dress that he says cost him a lot of money and even his collection of baseball cards. It is this dress that plays a major role throughout the episode as Lois learns that the chemo-therapy has been successful but once it finishes up she will have to have surgery to remove her breasts which in turn leads to Lois chucking out the red dress giving it to Lana who is having a clothing drive. Lois doesn't feel herself anymore, she is no longer sexy or beautiful as her life is and has been turned upside down. Clark gets upset when he notices the dress in a box for donation and when he goes to donate the clothes Lana says that she will talk to Lois and return the dress.
In the last episode things got pretty intense between John Henry and Bruno Mannheim. It all ended in Peia Bruno's wife being injured almost to the point of death. She is now at the D.O.D and John Henry along with Sam Lane and Superman refuse to let Bruno see his wife until he gives them everything he has. This includes Superman's blood and the body of Bizarro among other things. Bruno even shows up to the D.O.D with his lawyer but is again refused entry to see his wife. This leads to Bruno sending his men after John Henry as a battle ensues between him and the men down the street from the diner. It's now time to end this says John Henry as just when Superman attempts to get Bruno to stand down D.O.D agents swarm his office and seemingly arrest him taking back everything in the process except for Bizarro's body which Bruno still has. Bruno does have another trump card to play however and it is Henry Miller who he awakens from his slumber leading to a chaotic battle between John Henry, Henry Miller and Superman. John Henry ends up killing Henry Miller much to everyone's surprise and disgust. It's certainly an interesting direction to go with John Henry here as his life has begun to slowly spiral out of control.
The episode draws to a close as Lana goes to see Lois at her home. It's here where we get a lot more flashbacks about Lois and Clark attending the awards show together. Lois is wearing the red dress on this night and Clark showers her with praise. The two are seen in a limo together both before and after and as Clark showers his fiance with praise and encouragement it is here where Lois tells him that she wants to marry Clark at the Kent Farm. Clark is overcome with joy and so will his mother he says. The two share a special moment in the limo with all things pointing to them making love in the back seat. Back in present day and Lana reassures Lois which leads in her keeping the dress. As Clark returns home he tells Lois that he'll always be there for her and it's always all about her. For now they won't be able to show their love for one another but at this moment they just cuddle together before deciding to recreate the night of the awards show which ended with them both in the air embracing. Lois walks out of the house wearing that red dress and Clark is in a tuxedo. What follows is a beautiful moment between the two as the love they have for one another is showcased in such a positive and meaningful way here. The episode ends with them both saying they love one another and is easily one of my favorite episodes this season. It felt so real and had amazing character development from all sides not just Clark and Lois. The stuff with Bruno Mannheim and John Henry was intense and exciting to watch. Superman and Lois continues to prove just why it is one of the best DC TV shows ever put to screen. The love and dedication to the characters on show here is stellar!
