Fast X review

The tenth entry into the Fast and Furious franchise has arrived and it is as big, bold and over the top as you'd expect. Vin Diesel is back and he's brought his family along for the ride once again. This movie opens up 10 years in the past as a sinister threat who thought to be long gone is very much alive and back on the trail of Dominic Toretto and his crew in the present day which leads to high octane action and a whole bunch of exploding vehicles which engulf the screen time after time. Said bad guy is Jason Mamoa and as for his performance I don't know how to really feel about it. It's borderline insane as he jumps from being a really serious and menacing big dude to being a flamboyant almost Joker like in another was completely jarring. The funny thing here however is that he is easily the best thing about the movie apart from the action scenes. It's really hard to explain but once you see this movie you'll know what I mean.

So just how is the action in Fast X? it's incredible. Over the top nonsense is how I like to describe it as truthfully the stunts continuously defy the laws of gravity time after time. Fast X is also chocked full of a bucket list of exotic and modern day locations. From a giant fireball rolling bomb car chase in Rome to a street race in Rio of Brazil it's all fast paced and well worth the price of admission.

New faces are abound in Fast X including Brie Larson and Daniela Melchoir who join the cast and while both do a solid job they aren't really THAT important to the overall plot and narrative going on. I did really like the ending to this movie which does leave things open for a lot more to come which I didn't expect. Fast X is certainly better than the last entry into the franchise which isn't saying a lot but it is rather enjoyable and the perfect summer popcorn blockbuster.
