The Flash 9x9 : It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
The Flash returns from it's break and finally we have a really, really good episode this season and all it took was 8 episodes before it to achieve it. The episode opens up with everyone throwing a surprise 30th birthday party for Barry Allen inside of S.T.A.R Labs. We even got some returning faces including Wally West (Kid Flash) and John Diggle along with the former Captain Singh of CCPD and the rest of Team Flash. It's a great way to kick things off but soon things take a dark turn..literally. Barry is asked to give a speech and as everyone drinks champagne they each begin to feel faint before passing out falling to the ground. Turns out the champagne has been tampered with by none other than the returning Bloodwork (Ramsey Rosso) who is the cause of everyone passing out. He has crashed the party and almost immediately turns everyone into his blood brothers in an attempt to execute his plan which we find out in kind of installments. In summary he wants to expand his life blood to the multiverse. But didn't the multiverse die during the Crisis event?? well yes and no as I'll explain in just a bit. Ramsey isn't here for Barry this time although he does take pleasure in toying with him. He is here for Wally whom he wants by his side to help him achieve his goal and he does manage to get into the head of Kid Flash as he uses his anger and frustrations against Barry as Wally straight up kills Barry in cold blood in the middle of the S.T.A.R. Labs. Wait what??
We soon see Barry wake up in the middle of a wooded area. He is indeed dead killed by Wally who is now fully under the control of Bloodwork. Barry awakens and sees none other than Oliver Queen himself standing before him. He too is dead as we know but it turns out that his being lives on as the Specter and he has his powers at his command. While the multiverse did die during the Crisis event he also created a new multiverse in the process which is how Red Death and Ryan Wilder came to be. She was from an Earth numbered 4215 as Oliver has had quite some time to map out this entire new multiverse. He tells Barry that he can't bring him back to life as long as Barry doesn't want to be back. He also says that he can only interfere in situations where the multiverse is in serious danger which is why when he brings back Barry he too comes along for the ride and fight against Bloodwork and Kid Flash.
The episode draws to a close as back at S.T.A.R. Labs only Chester and Iris are the ones who weren't affected by Ramsey's champagne. Chester because he doesn't drink and Iris because of baby Nora's speed healing factors while she is growing inside of her. Khion soon turns up and uses her powers to freeze all of the team Flash members in their tracks by freezing all of the water in their bodies. Soon The Flash and Green Arrow are reunited in battle and both take the fight to Bloodwork and Kid Flash who is very much under the influence of Bloodwork now much like Barry was back in season 6. In summary Ramsey does end up getting stopped by our hero's, they even cleanse him of his life blood power and render him human again. Oliver does all of this and really is the standout here in so many ways. The multiverse is safe as the party continues back at S.T.A.R. Labs where Oliver and Diggle have a true heartfelt goodbye this time around. Oliver even mentions how Diggle having to make a decision on that Green Lantern ring was a test of his resolve and because of his decision his days will be much more bright going forward. A real great scene here! the episode ends with Barry and Oliver sharing a drink together before Oliver has to leave. Oliver tells Barry that the lighting bolt chose him and he should appreciate that fact every day. He is the best of the multiverse Flashes and he always will be. He also hilariously catches Barry to pay the bill which was a perfect comedic moment to end the episode on. A great episode overall here. Not perfect but this is the kind of content we should've been getting this season all along. I loved Oliver talking about his time as The Arrow, how the guilt of not living up to his father's sacrifice was weighing heavy on him, it's all just fantastic it truly was. This is The Flash I used to love. More of it please in these remaining episodes!
