Superman & Lois 3x6 : Of Sound Mind review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Superman and Lois returns from it's break with an incredibly interesting and character driven episode. The episode opens up with Clark who we see is attending a support group for those whose wife / spouse / partners have been diagnosed with cancer. It's a pretty emotional scene as stories of people's troubles are detailed leading to Clark to make the decision that it's really not for him. He tells Lois this when he returns to the room where she is at where she is talking to one of the patients from the last episode. It's just not for me Clark says as really this whole episodes kind of revolves around Clark's point blank refusal to believe that anything will happen to Lois even though she has cancer which cannot be cured. It's pretty deep and meaningful stuff to be honest and once again portrayed brilliantly by all actors involved. When we're back at the Kent Farm Superman hears Sam Lane asking to see him at the D.O.D, it's got to do with Deadline who Superman fought in the last episode. He is dying simple as that. Superman ends up flying him to Bruno Mannheim's office but is refused any sort of help whatsoever. He then brings him to a hospital but it's too late the cancerous tumors inside of him are too much and he dies leaving behind 3 daughters which Lois learns about later.
Speaking of Lois Lane she is seen attempting to get her affairs in order incase of her death. Clark and her even get into an argument about this where Clark's fear is pretty much exposed. He outright refuses to believe that anything will happen to his wife like I mentioned earlier. Lois is angry at him and rightfully so given the position she is in. It's almost like cancer doesn't even exist in the eyes of Clark. Lois leaves the home by herself stating she needs some alone time. Clark takes this opportunity to go to the Fortress with Jordan who has been training and training hard. So much so that he even takes on his first real mission by saving people in Utah Texas during a flash flood. Clark didn't allow him to go thought it was Lois which urks Clark even more. At the Fortress and he runs Jordan through even more tests all while pushing him harder and harder even shooting him with a laser at one point. Maybe you're just not okay with another super being proclaims Jordan. Interesting stuff indeed.
The episode draws to a close back at the Kent home and Clark finally comes to his senses and finally gets back on the good books of Lois as he says he will be there for her from now on in all aspects. It's a pretty emotional scene again which in turn leads to Clark going back to the support group where he opens up for the first time. He is there to learn and be helped in his and Lois's journey. Just beautiful stuff all around to be honest. The episode ends however with the villain Onomatopoeia who after getting into a fight with Superman earlier in the episode finally gets revealed. The villain arrives at Bruno Mannheim's facility stating that it's feeling less and less powerful so much so that they feel their power is almost gone. The mask of the villain is taken off being revealed to be the woman who Lois was talking with at the hospital, she too is a cancer patient just like Henry Miller and Deadline. It also looks like she is the wife of Bruno Mannheim as the two seem closer than first thought. It's a very interesting twist that's for sure. And that's the episode and much like the rest of this season it was very solid indeed. Some great character growth especially for Clark and while the stuff with Lana, Kyle their daughters and Chrissy didn't feel much apart of the overall narrative it wasn't too intrusive. Clark and Lois are fantastic. Portrayed brilliantly and this show continues to showcase these characters in just the best light imaginable. Roll on next week!
