Superman & Lois 3x4 : Too Close to Home review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Superman and Lois has been great so far this season. This weeks episode continues that trend as we begin with Superman and Jordan helping people escape from a Forest Fire that has engulfed the surrounding area in flames. Our heroes get people to safety including a couple in an RV. Jordan is left by Superman to stay behind and deal with the situation as Superman hears Lois crying for help. He rushes home and it turns out that Lois is not actually in trouble she just dropped a glass onto the floor in the kitchen. At the end of last weeks episode we saw Lois heading off to begin her chemo-therapy for her cancer treatment/ This week we learn that she has begun the process and had her first round of treatment. This leads to Clark telling the boys that they're not to bother her today. All things go through him and not their mom. He even asks them to leave for a bit to which both agree. They both go out with Jordan going fishing with his grandfather while Johnathan goes to see Candice. It is from here where the best scenes of this episode take place as when Johnathan goes to see Candice he is met by her father much like last week. It gets ugly really quickly as Johnathan is punched by Candice's father Emmitt which leaves a nasty bruise. Back home and Johnathan refuses to tell Lois what happened but it's not long before she manages to break him down and tell her but more on that in a bit.

At the end of last weeks episode we learned that Bruno Mannheim has been keeping the blood of Superman in his facilities. This week Superman is brought to the D.O.D. by Sam Lane who tells him where the blood originated from. It came from Superman when he was brought to the D.O.D after his run in with Ally Alston last season. Blood was taken from him to save his life apparently but it's likely now done a lot more harm than good. Superman ends up destroying the remaining blood locked away in the D.O.D with his heat vision but it's not nearly close enough to stopping what is surely to come. Back with Lois now and after finding out what happened to Johnathan she goes to see Emmitt herself along with the boys. It gets even uglier than before however when he motions that he has a gun and isn't afraid to use it. Lois doesn't back down however but does end up leaving before things get out of hand. This later leads to one of the best Clark Kent scenes in this show's history. At the diner Clark walks in as Emmitt is having something to eat. Clark gets in his face as we hear the heartbeat of Emmitt grow and beat faster and faster. Clark tells him that if he ever sees him near his family again there will be trouble for him. What a scene and what a way to showcase that Clark Kent can be pretty intimidating when he needs to be.

The episode draws to a close as John Henry Irons meets with his sister of this earth. The two share a moment but ultimately it's not the same. Darlene is her name and she mentions how apart from the scar John Henry has both he and her brother are practically the same. She also mentions how their father used to call them The Wonder Twins. In summary here it all ends up leading to a meeting between John Henry and Bruno Mannheim where he learns that Darlene is being held hostage in a short of bargaining chip move by Bruno. Either John Henry walks away and doesn't bother them anymore of Darlene will be killed. John Henry tells him to go to hell and actually ends up saving his ''sister'' in a cool suit up sequence in mid-air. The episode ends with two further things. Firstly there is Candice who ends up going to live with the Kent Family for a while as the whole ordeal with her father becomes a bit too dangerous and harsh to bear. Lois makes the decision to let her stay along with Clark in a move that was just genuinely good. I love when both Clark and Lois are show to have such big generous hearts it's so good. As for Jordan well he ends up getting his very first super suit from Sam even fitted with a pair of goggles that belonged to Sam's father. It's yet another heartwarming moment in a season that is proving to be really, really good! and that was the episode. Brilliant and heartwarming it was a joy to behold as this show just knows how to nail all the character aspects. It's so good to watch and I look forward to it each week. This isn't the best episode this season but it's very close!
