The Flash 9x7 : Wildest Dreams review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Last time out we got one of the worst Flash episodes in some time. It was boring and in a final season was almost a crime to include it given the little time allotted this season. Can this episode be better and get things back on track?? well the episode opens up with a returning Nia from Supergirl (Dreamer) we see her in a dream seemingly searching for something. People begin to appear behind her as she ventures forward. She is stopped in her tracks though when a mysterious figure appears. It is a hooded figure with only bright blue eyes visible. Iris of all people is here too and upon her turning up a wave of energy engulfs the screen ending the dream almost instantly. Nia awakens in Jitters and immediately leaves saying she needs to go to Central City seemingly to see Iris.
Speaking of Iris we're soon with her at her workplace and Alegra has her new article about the Red Death ready to publish upon approval. Turns out however that this is the same article that wins Iris a Pulitzer award as the headline is the same one from Barry's map-book of future events we saw a couple of episodes back. Iris is hesitant to publish the article for the time being saying that she needs to sleep on it before finally deciding. This is when Nia enters her office and tells her of her dream. Not only was Iris in it but she died too. Nia also has lost her powers thanks to this mysterious hooded figure, she tries to use her powers in front of Iris but it's no use. They end up getting interrupted by the hooded figure who transports them into a dream-world. Both Nia and Iris awake in CCPD and both are Police Officers. Iris who tells Nia that she always wanted to be an Officer like her dad is seemingly okay with everything going on but Nia wants out immediately. They do manage to get out of this dream but walk straight into another this time one where the entire Team Flash work at Jitters which is where Iris once worked. Surely this is all got to do with Iris right?? well yes and no.
The episode draws to a close as Iris and Nia almost lifeless bodies are brought to Star Labs after being found by Barry in Iris's office. Chester informs everyone that it's not looking good at the moment for them as they're merging dreams together and once that happens both will begin to experience organ failure and ultimately death. It's looking pretty bleak for Nia and Iris who inside are beginning to experience one dream and one dream only. It is the same from the beginning of the episode where Iris died. Nia attempts to take control back and give in to this hooded figure but it all actually turns out okay as this person turns out to be the original Dreamer. She holds a supreme amount of Dream Energy. She restores Dreamer to her powerful state and even agrees to train her leading her to learn and hone new abilities. As for Iris she is okay and is soon back with Team Flash after quite an ordeal in the dream-world. She definitely learned a lot and her character went through quite a bit of an arc here which I did like. Same with Nia. The episode ends at Star Labs with Nia saying her goodbyes to everyone as this is probably her entire story arc wrapped up in the Arrowverse. As for the episode as a whole I just have similar problems to this episode that I had for the last episode in terms of doing this now. It was great to see Nia back don't get me wrong but this is something you do a in a regular season not a final season of a show especially a show like The Flash. It's not a bad episode by any means and is a lot better than the last one but this season man it just feels off to me which is a shame.
