Superman & Lois 3x2 : Uncontrollable Forces review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

After the beginning of season 3 last week can this weeks episode of Superman and Lois really kick this season into gear?? the answer is a resounding yes! our journey this week begins as we see Lois getting some work done in hospital. Turns out she is getting a biopsy and just before the title cards flash on screen it looks like she gets some bad news from her doctor which really plays into not just the end of the episode but an incredible performance by actress Bitsie Tulloch who plays Lois. It's absolutely heartbreaking and really pulls on the heart strings but more on that in a bit. At the end of last weeks episode we saw Bruno Mannheim for the first time and he was up to no good as expected given his position within Intergang. By his side was the assassin Onomatopeia who we see again this week and we see just how ruthless they truly are. Lana whose work as Mayor is still piling up gets a call from the former Mayor of Smallville who seems to be in a lot of distress. He is in pretty serious and imminent danger as he is being hunted by Onomatopeia who murders him in cold blood the body of the former Mayor being splatted onto the hood of his car. Lana overhears everything and is in a state of shock for the rest of the episode. There's a crime scene put in place with absolutely no sign of any weapons present, the former Mayor has a chest wound which killed him instantly. Was he involved with Intergang?? most likely.

We're back at the Smallville Gazette and both Clark and Lois get tasked with interviewing the judge who released Henry Miller from prison. The two go and interview her and it's clear from the get go that she too is somehow involved with Intergang. It's even more clear when men show up at her office and escort both Clark and Lois out with the Judge seeming rattled. This in turn does lead to Superman tailing the car that leaves her office hoping it leads somewhere while Lois attempts to talk to the judge again as she positions herself on the ledge of her building seemingly going to jump off to her death, more on this entire situation in just a bit. Towards the end of last season and last weeks premiere we saw that Sarah just wants to be friends with Jordan. As for Jordan he is still clearly in love with her but tries to play it cool this week. A party in Metropolis it is then for both Jordan and Johnathan and also Sarah and Natalie who attempt to meet new people. At the party Natalie meets a boy but things are cut short when the boys and Sarah get into trouble leading to them all having to leave but not before Jordan ups and freezes the host's car for being so horrible to him and Sarah. It's a justified and cool moment (pun intended)

The episode draws to a close as Superman and Bruno Mannheim finally come face to face at Mannheim's pent house. Bruno downplays his involvement in pretty much everything. Superman accuses him of a lot here without proof even though it is clear that Mannheim is involved heavily with whatever is going on in the city. He tells Superman to leave and go put out fires because that's all he is good for. Ouch! Superman hears Lois and the judge in the distance and goes to them as Bruno just watches him fly off. This was a tense interaction that left me wanting more which is always a good thing. As for Lois and the judge as Superman gets closer to them he just listens in and it is here where he and us learn of Lois's diagnosis from earlier. Turns out she has breast cancer and it is stage 3 aggressive. She tells the judge to not lose hope and to keep fighting even if things seem utterly bleak. With the judge saved and things quiet for now we're soon back at home with Lois and Clark where Lois tells Clark the full extent of her cancer diagnosis. She does have stage 3 breast cancer and she is sacred to death. Clark reassures her telling her that she is the strongest person he knows and that he'll always look at her in that way. The two hug and prepare to tell the boys. And that's how the episode ends with Lois informing both Jordan and Johnathan of her cancer diagnosis. It's another emotional scene as the boys both rally around their mom as the episode fades out. Wow! this was an emotional episode packed to the brim with excellent performances, great character moments and development and was such a step up from last week. This is Superman and Lois at it's absolute best!
