Scream VI review

I was lucky to see Scream VI two days before official release and I am grateful for that. Scream VI right off the bat is a different beast of a Scream movie. The opening is fantastic with a great setup, an even better fake-out moment and a chilling final moment which leads directly into the movie. Samantha Carpenter and her sister Tara are back. After surviving the last movie they're now in New York City where Sam is apart of some conspiracy that she was the one who setup the entire last movie, of course that is not the case but that doesn't stop people in the street from targeting her. Also along for the ride here are returning characters like Gale Weathers and Kirby Reed who personally is one of my all time favorite Scream characters.

Scream VI is fully stocked with horror movie references from the get go. It is smart as whip and offers some of the most gnarly death scenes in the entire franchise. This is a Ghostface unlike any other as his actions are full of intent but with very little remorse show at all. In-fact he is absolutely unrelenting in the pursuit of all victims. Performance wise Melissa Berrera really ups her game from Scream (2022) as her performance is a lot more refined and darker. Jenna Ortega is great too the two playing well off one another just like last time. There is some great scenes here featuring a really intense train scene, a scene involving a ladder crawl across two apartment windows and the finale which is equal parts shocking and violent it is truly a fantastic time to be had.

Scream VI is a bold, vicious new outing for the Scream franchise as a whole and will have you jumping in fear throughout. It is the best sequel hands down only being beat by the original classic. It is highly enjoyable and showcases that Ghostface still has so much to offer as a horror icon.
