M3GAN review

Horror has become somewhat of my favorite genre the past few years. From Cabin in the Woods and Happy Death Day, to last years Barbarian to the latest Scream movie the genre has surprised and entertained me so much. So with this new movie named M3GAN can it continue that trend? or will this movie end up a broken old mess of junk thrown into the corner?? well the answer to that question right away is no. M3GAN is a unique, original and fascinating movie from beginning to end. M3GAN is an A.I. marvel. A lifelike doll that is programmed to pair with a child and be their friend. protector and everything else in-between. Designed by a scientist named Gemma who has recently had to take guardianship of her young niece she designs and implements M3GAN as a major part of her nieces life after the death of her parents.

Right away the Child's Play similarities are clear at least they were to me. A doll who seems friendly but really has a lot more actual bad intentions on it's mind. Things soon take a dark turn on Gemma and her niece who blames her for taking M3GAN from her after she notices it's behavior. It is in the second and third act where the movie really picks up the pace a lot and delivers what is arguably the most fun, unique and just downright enjoyable horror movies in quite sometime.

M3GAN will be your friend sure but she has pretty evil intentions soon after. The effect of A.I advancing at such rapid pace is as terrifying it not more so than the actual doll. Robots taking over is a fascinating idea to me and this just further proves that. M3GAN is a fast paced thriller filled with jump scares, good humor and some of the best animatronics on film in quite some time. 2023 is off to the races with a genuine contender for best horror of the year and it's only January.
