Stargirl 3x7 : Frenemies - Chapter seven : Infinity Inc. Part one review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
This weeks episode of Stargirl is part one of a two parter episode arc revolving around Jennie and Todd Rice. The episode begins six months in the past as we catch up with Jennie who last we saw helped Courtney and everyone else defeat Eclipso. She is at the care home she grew up in and is now leaving ready to out on her own. She sits on the steps of the building and looks inside of a package she was given by the woman who runs the care home. Inside we see a toy car, a photo of her and her brother Todd when they were kids and finally most important is the Green Lantern ring once belonging to Alan Scott. As Jennie picks up the ring we're brought to Civic City where we finally meet Todd Rice who just so happens to be sneaking into a building with his friend Danny as it's his birthday and Danny has prepared a special meal for the two. As Todd sits down while Danny prepares the birthday meal we're shown Jennie again and as she puts on the Green Lantern ring both her and Todd's eyes flash green with Todd becoming totally overwhelmed as he falls to the ground in pain. The police soon arrive and Danny gets out just in time as told by Todd. Turns out the police know who Todd is and bring him back to a place called the Helix Institute and this is where none other than the villainous Mr Bones resides. It's pretty evident that he has the police in his pocket but a lot of others too. Todd is placed back into the care of the institute and Jennie's look for her brother goes on.
At the end of last weeks episode we saw everyone learn that they've been watched by someone. And not just the JSA but pretty much all important locations in Blue Valley were under surveillance. This leads to the entire Whitmore family trying to 'act' normal for the cameras. As this is going on Beth is hard at work attempting to turn of the entire Blue Valley power grid so that the entire team can work together to remove cameras. It is a big success and the cameras are removed from the Whitmore home, the school, the pit stop and even the American Dream office where Barbara works. As Court and Pat remove their camera none other than The Shade reappears in front of them asking for Courtneys help. He takes her hand and disappears into the shadows but so does Pat as he somehow got brought along. Once they turn back up in the land of the living we meet none other than Jennie again who it seems has been working with The Shade as they look for her brother. Shade says that Jennie's Lantern ring has become corrupted thanks to some of his shadow essence getting into the ring. They both hinder each others powers which leads to some discourse between them. It is why Shade has called upon Courtney to help them.
The episode draws to a close as Jennie, Courtney, Pat and The Shade do find Todd but he is getting some truly heavy experiments being done on him. As everyone walks into the room and Todd learns that it's actually Jennie he tells them to leave him be because if taken out of his holding cell he will unleash his true powers on everyone. Jennie not heading her brothers words tries to remove him from his shackles but as he said his powers are unleashed as he turns into a shadow like monster that once Courtney and Jennie are out of the way of sucks Pat and The Shade into what seems to be The Shadowlands as the episode ends with Pat and Shade waking up in a black and white world much like we saw last season. Could it be the Shadowlands?? or is this a creation of Todd's own making?? the episode ends with Pat and The Shade almost getting run over and honestly I did really like this weeks episode. It was not only a great setup for next week but the focus on Jennie and Todd was fascinating stuff. There of course was a lot more going on too like Yolanda being forced to leave her home thanks to her hiding lies from her mother but she's clearly doing it to protect her but alas her mother doesn't seem to care and tells her to leave. Yolanda turns up on Barbara's doorstep asking can she stay there even though her and Courtney aren't exactly seeing eye to eye. So there is plenty going on in Stargirl right now and it's just great viewing. Roll on part two next week!
