Stargirl 3x6 : Frenemies - Chapter six : The Betrayal review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

After a lackluster 2 episodes Stargirl returns to form and in a big way. The episode begins with Rick who we see going into the gym at night to test out his hourglass after last week removing the limiter on it. He is easily able to go over one hour now and go he does as he lifts weights and trains hard. He shouts and pumps the air once the hour time limit passes and he is still able to lift the weights with ease. As this is going on we see that Rick is being watched just like everyone in Blue Valley it seems. What's odd here however is that a puzzle is being made by whoever this is. It slowly begins to form more and more as the episode goes on but it's really hard to make it out. Just who is watching everyone?? we soon see Yolanda at confession as she talks to her parish priest about forgiveness for what she is about to do. This is leading on from last week as Yolanda was the one who found The Gambler's laptop at Cindy's place. Will Wildcat go through with her plan??

Last time out we saw Courtney totally neglect her duty as Stargirl in favor of spending time with Cameron and helping him hone his ice powers. That continues this week as Courtney and Cameron continue to spend time together so much that Starman has now taken over leading the JSA. We see Cameron attempt to use his powers in a calm manner for a change and in doing so he makes a sculpture of his dad Icicle. The two are very much an item and it's put into question later in the episode as a whole manner of secrets are found out by fellow JSA members. As Pat and Barbara learn of Courtney's crush they actually go pay Cameron's grand parents a visit in a scene that was absolutely brilliant. The tension between both families was heavy only being broken by Cameron and Courtney who arrive. It's a great scene overall and one that ends quickly but has a lot more questions rather than answers once it ends. Could Cameron's grand parents know of the JSA and Courtney being Stargirl? they clearly knew about the ISA and their plans.

The episode draws to a close as Beth is given The Gambler's laptop by Yolanda who immediately gets to work on cracking the firewall and security on it. Once she is finished doing that Yolanda is ordered by Sylvester to return the laptop and it is here where the episode really kicked into gear as Cindy catches Wildcat in the act. The two almost immediately get into a fight that spans from Cindy's bedroom to the outside as Hourman soon shows up to help his JSA team mate. Stargirl arrives in style however as Courtney uses the new move taught to her by Starman. She flies down and uses the Cosmic Staff to propel everyone backwards. It is here where the JSA is pretty much shredded to pieces as the learn of Cindy's Dragon King problem as her skin is becoming more and more like her father. But Cindy does more damage than they could've imagined as she blatantly tells Yolanda and Rick that Courtney has not only been dating Cameron but she has been helping him hone his powers in secret. This immediately leads to a big divide between the team as it's very clear that Courtney is being isolated. As Courtney arrives home after having an even bigger fight with her team mates we see her and Sylvester have a deep heart to heart conversation. It's a sweet moment. The episode draws to a close as Beth arrives at the Whitmore home late at night clearly spooked. She has found something and she shows Pat and Courtney that not only they're being watched by pretty much everyone who is important in Blue Valley. The episode ends right there and then and yes this was a vast improvement over the last two weeks. This is Stargirl at it's almost best and such a welcome return to form. Roll on next week!
