Superman & Lois 2x12 : Lies That Bind review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Superman and Lois returns from it's hiatus and the last time we saw this show Clark Kent revealed himself as Superman to long term friend Lana. It was one of my favorite moments from this entire show and proved just why this show is so good. So picking up where it left off we see Lana and Clark talking. Lana talks about how Clark disappeared as her and their friend Pete was saved by someone, of course this was Superman at the time which explained Clark disappearing. Lana in a pretty unconventional twist is pretty angry at Clark here before storming off of her own. We're soon back with Lana though and it's clear that she still has feelings for Clark as we see various memories of her and Clark / Superman. She is heavily distracted by all of this and not to mention her new position as Mayor of Smallville which is a big implication for her decision at the end of the episode.
We're with Superman now and he visits John-El who is still in containment. Superman's plan to destroy the Pendant which will stop Ally Alston's plan is put to question as we learn that Superman alone can not destroy the Pendant. He's told this John-El who also says that the Pendant is pretty much indestructible which leads to Superman going to see his brother Tal-Rho for help in destroying it. A trade offer is on the table except fully letting Tal-Rho out of containment that is a no-go area. Clark does the unthinkable in the eyes of Lois, her dad and John Henry as he brings Tal-Rho to the Kent family home. It is here where they all go over the plan with both brothers agreeing to using their heat vision to destroy the Pendant stopping Allys plan in the process. Lois is not happy about this, neither is John Henry but it's all that they can do as any other plan involves destroying the portal which would leave the Bizarro world closed forever with Ally inside playing Judge, Jury and Executioner.
The episode draws to a close as Lana meets with Lois and tells her that she isn't really mad at Clark or upset she is more so angry at Lois as she says their entire friendship has been built on a lie which is very true so Lana has a good point here. She comes to a decision about her friendship with both Lois and Clark going forward a little bit later. First we gotta deal with the Pendant and with John Henry's help to fend off Ally who severely de-powers both Tal-Rho and Superman with her power which is very much like sucking the soul out of her victim. With John Henry dealing with Ally and holding her off both Superman and Tal-Rho destroy the Pendant with their combined powers. Ally arrives and just takes the Pendant in her hand even though it's totally void of any integrity. So the Pendant is destroyed what happens with Tal-Rho now? well nothing as when Superman turns around his brother is gone seemingly now on the run? looks like Superman should've left his cuffs on huh? back at the Kent family home and Lana comes to her decision that she can no longer be apart of Lois and Clark's life. She needs to be away from them in yet another twist I didn't see coming. I fully expected to have Lana on board but this is a really interesting way to go about it. In time she will surely come around but for now she's just going to be the Mayor which is totally fine. The episode has one final thing however and it's to do with Ally and her plan going forward. We see her talking to the Bizarro Lana as she says there is always another way of fulfilling her plan. She visits Bizarro Tal-Rho who she has in a containment cell after he sided with Superman last time out. She basically uses her power to suck the soul out of him leaving nothing but dead, decaying body behind. A pure power move, brutal and ruthless. That's how the episode ended and to be honest I didn't like this week nearly as much as past weeks but that's okay not every episode is going to be spectacular 5 star affairs. That being said this was really enjoyable and furthered the story along rather well.
