Top Gun : Maverick review

Top Gun : Maverick has finally arrived in cinemas after many delays and reshuffles to it's arrival, will it live up to the hype? Tom Cruise returns as Captain Pete ''Maverick'' Mitchell an air force pilot. A lot of time has passed since the original and it ties directly into this movie as Maverick's character goes through many highs and lows throughout. In present day Maverick is a part of a training programme but when that gets grounded and shut down by an Admiral he is tasked with his biggest and most interesting task to date. Teaching. Not just teaching but the teaching of some of the best up and coming pilots the USA has to offer. His training methods are not standard, far from it as he really pushes these pilots to their absolute limits. But what is the mission?? it's almost a death sentence but with Maverick's help it all seems possible right?

A follow up to Top Gun which I wasn't necessarily the biggest fan of was inevitable but who knew it would take this long to finally arrive, with that being said Tom Cruise has delivered yet another action masterclass. Top Gun : Maverick is an assault on the senses from beginning to end. The flight sequences here are simply astounding as they are intense, claustrophobic and thrilling. It's all beautifully shot and will have you feeling like you're along for the ride at some points.

Top Gun : Maverick is one of the years best movies no doubt and proves once more that nobody does action movies quite like Tom Cruise. He takes risk after risk and it really pays off. That's not to say it's all action here because it isn't, there is some real tender and emotional moments throughout that harken back to the original movie and only further the plot along in a great way. This is easily the best action movie of the year so far and is destined to be one of my favorite movies this year. High intensity at it's finest. Bravo!
