The Flash 8x13 : Death Falls review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

The Flash has been good recently. It's be consistent with a solid story leading into good scenes and a good villain in Deathstorm. Not amazing but a vast improvement and the best villain since Bloodwork in my opinion. So with that being said can this episode continue the upward trajectory of The Flash? the episode begins with Iris who is still with Sue in Coast City. At the end of last weeks episode we saw Eddie Thawne ''reappear'' before his ex fiance. He assures Iris that everything is okay and that he is here to take care of her until she gets better. Is this just another trick by Deathstorm or is there something far sinister at play here? we're soon back at Star Labs where Caitlin is still pretty much out of it after her encounter with Deathstorm in last weeks episode. It is up to Frost now as we learned last week as she is to become the Anti-Deathstorm which in turn will let her overpower the cosmic like villain. Will it succeed? well Frost has backup in the form of Chillblaine who is the most likable he's ever been in this episode. It's amazing what actual non cringe worthy writing can do for a character. The ice based duo get to work on Frost's transformation but will it actually be a success? or another bump in the road?

Before Frost is able to actually begin her plan she is visited by Ronnie (Deathstorm) who is pretty much untouchable in his current form. He talks about grief and again how Caitlin will be reborn as his bride, it's only a matter of time. And time is not on Frost's side as the grief from all members of Team Flash begins to literally pump in Caitlin as Barry sees his mom, Alegra sees Esperanza again and Chester his dad. Also like I said earlier Eddie Thawne is infact a ghost of Deathstorm being used to drain Sue and Iris of their grief. Not to mention Joe who turns up after a SOS call from Sue. All of their grief further powers Caitlin who is still out for the count. Frost has no other option than to get her plan underway and with the help of Chillblaine she makes her way to the container where the transformation into the Anti-Deathstorm will take place. At first it looks to be working but of course things take a bad turn and it doesn't work according to plan. Frost's luck is changed when she goes to see Caitlin again. She basically takes all of her grief and transforms into Hell-Frost a powerful version of Frost full with grief who is powerful enough to take down Deathstorm. And take down Deathstorm she does..

The episode draws to a close as Hell-Frost cleanses all of Team Flash of their grief with a giant wave of her energy. She is fully powered now and everyone is safe. It is now Hell-Frost vs Deathstorm and the battle takes place on the ground and in the sky as Hell-Frost defeats Deathstorm pretty easily truth be told. She removes the splicer on his chest which unleashes all of his energy which Hell-Frost inhales. She has defeated Deathstorm but at what cost? well unfortunately it may be her life as when the team is celebrating a victory Frost falls onto the ground as The Flash rushes to her side to take her back to Star Labs. Caitlin who is only just awake attempts to save her sister but it's no use as Frost opens her eyes for one brief moment to look at Caitlin before slipping away. She fulfilled her duty of protecting Caitlin to the upmost, saw her and then passed away. This was genuinely a beautiful yet heartbreaking moment. With the burden of having to tell everyone that Frost has died both Barry and Caitlin tell the team together including Chillblaine who immediately just loses it not believing what has happened. The episode ends with everyone super emotional as the weight of Frost's sacrifice is clear to see. Wow. That's all I had to say when this was over. An incredible emotional ending to an episode that overall wasn't exactly that great. It wasn't horrible by any means but it did feel kind of boring up until the last 15 minutes or so. But with that being said the final 15 minutes were so good and more than made up for the rest of the episode. It's never easy to say goodbye to a character especially one who has been around as long as Frost. Her character went through so many changes and each was unique and interesting. Not all perfect but Frost was a big part of this team and she will be missed that's for sure. That was the episode, a solid if a bit slow one that had a heartbreaking ending that will surely leave you emotional and feeling like you lost a friend of your own especially if you've been with this show since it's inception.
