The Flash 8x12 : Death Rises review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

The Flash returns after a short hiatus and picks up immediately where it left off as Deathstorm reveals himself to Caitlin. This episode opens up with him narrating over shots of another dimension and how the Earth is getting hotter and hotter with the open empty area of space and it's cold nothingness. Deathstorm wants Caitlin for something which is later revealed but as of this moment he is stopped right in his tracks by The Flash who shows up just in the nick of time as Caitlin is hit with some of Deathstorm's power. She isn't injured which is odd according to Team Flash but she is safe at least for the time being. Deathstorm however is out on the lamb as it's not long before bodies are being found totally burnt and decaying. Back at Star Labs and Barry is told that he was right in the last episode by Caitlin. He doesn't think too much into it as truthfully he is still very much worried about Iris who is still missing at this point. It's when Barry is talking to Cecil when Iris returns out of the blue in a move that even Barry can't believe. When Barry gets to Iris she is with Sue again as we learn that Iris's time sickness which has been the cause of everything bad for her thus far is the thing that actually ended up saving her. Iris soon begins to call out for Dion to learn of the current situation and ongoings especially considering that within the Still Force she cannot see her own future which is concerning but also her time sickness is only getting worse by the minute.

We're soon at Central City Police Department whose phone is ringing off the hook with claims of more victims being found. This leads to Captain Kramer calling The Flash for the first time for help. The Flash arrives at CCPD and is now in the midst of a big battle for the city as it is placed in lockdown with Deathstorm on the loose.  The Flash and the rest of the team are tasked with stopping him. So they get to work and with no real way of tracking the big bad it falls to Cecil of all people to help locate him. Barry and Chester come up with a plan to use her telepathic powers to locate Deathstorm via her ability to read and feel emotions. It's like she is being used as a compass to directly locate him. But of course things don't go to plan and Cecil ends up getting invaded by Deathstorm as he talks to Barry and Chester. Talking mainly about he longs for Caitlin and how he plans on feeding from more and more people. Cecil snaps out of it almost instantly as they're all left reeling but it's short lived as Deathstorm is soon back at Star Labs and kidnapping Caitlin..

The episode draws to a close with Caitlin being kidnapped and The Flash in hot pursuit. Flash finds it hard to keep up with Deathstorm as he can fly and he is flying just a little bit too high to catch. This leads into the greatest moment of the episode as The Flash rides his own lightning. Using it to create platforms which he jumps onto and speeds upwards to get closer and ultimately catch Deathstorm. But will he catch him? the answer is no as he enters a portal into what look likes space or at least another dimension as he returns out of the portal at a theme park / fun area. The Flash is hot on his tail but before he gets there more victims are killed by Deathstorm who informs Caitlin of his true intentions. It is to take Caitlin and make her his Death-Bride to cure his feeling of being alone of all things. It's an interesting angle but it short lived for now as The Flash saves Caitlin and takes her back to Star Labs. It is at Star Labs where the episode ends as Team Flash finally come up with a form of attack and with the help of Frost and a chamber which they can retro fit to a cosmic like chamber they seem to think they can stop Deathstorm once and for all. Can they? the episode isn't over yet however as it ends with Iris whose time sickness continues to spiral out of control so much that she has now infected Dion (Still Force) who disappears right in front of her. The episode ends however as Iris wakes up in the middle of the night and sees none other than Eddie Thawne who says it is so good to see her. What could this mean? and is Eddie going to be a permanent fixture going forward? that's how the episode ends and truthfully I did like this one but there was some unnecessary things like yet another speech from Joe which are just getting boring and mundane at this point. And also Alegra's run in with her 'cousin' Ultraviolet who I never want to see again as I just get flashbacks to her time on this show and how terrible it was as she just kept on coming back. But with everything being said this was a solid episode, Deathstorm is very intriguing and his design and power are genuinely frightening. This isn't The Flash at it's best but it was at very least enjoyable.
