Superman & Lois 2x10 : Bizarros in a Bizarro World review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Superman and Lois returns with an absolutely incredible episode. It opens up with Superman whom last we saw entered the portal that led straight into the Bizarro world. He arrives on the other side and immediately sees that this world is not like his. Not only is the sun red which de-powers him but he also speaks backwards and even the Earth itself is in the shape of a square / rectangle. It's a great opening and sets the tone perfectly for the rest of the episode. Above this different Earth we see Superman attempting to listen in to anything below. He doesn't hear next to anything but the idea of going to Bizarro's Fortress of Solitude dawns on him. He arrives and inside we see various easter eggs like what looks to be Lex Luthor's Exo-Suit and even a bottled city which could possibly be Kandor City? shrunk down and bottled by Brainiac perhaps?? either way it was fascinating to see the trinkets Bizarro Superman had collected throughout his time as this worlds hero. His mom whom like at Clark's own Fortress is a hologram asks Clark what is happening and ultimately finds out about her sons demise. Superman soon sets off for the Kent family farm. It is here where the episode truly kicks into gear as we're introduced to Bizarro Johnathan-El. On this world Johnathan has powers as opposed to Jordan. John-El will surely help Superman right??
Introducing Bizarro Johnathan-El. We see this worlds Super family out and about. This all takes place in what is later revealed to be the lead up to Bizarro Superman leaving for Earth-Prime to stop Ally Alston once and for all. But before we get there we learn that this version of Superman is very famous to the point of him taking pictures with fans to an annoying level for all those close to him. He's also not exactly the greatest of fathers especially to Johnathan who feels left out and also feels like he is never truly heard or taken into account. This leads him down a path of basically becoming a member of Ally Alston's cult. But before he joins Ally John-El's powers are showcased to the world as he becomes Superboy or at least a version of him. Complete with black Super symbol t-shirt he definitely looks the part but he doesn't act the part as he becomes a henchman for Ally as her quest to merge with her other self ramps up.
The episode draws to a close with another returning face. I'd almost forgotten about L.T Mitch Anderson until he showed up just as John-El was attempting to get information about the oblivion stones out of Superman. Anderson who failed to merge with his other self thanks to John-El is still powered up thanks to his XK inhalers. Anderson who after seeing his other half be murdered by John-El is pretty much on Superman's side now after seeing the errors of his way. He has what Ally wants in the oblivion stones. Anderson along with Superman and the Bizarro versions of Jordan, Sam Lane and Lois attempt to team up to fight against the two versions of Ally, Lana, Tal-Rho and John-El as a showdown takes place outside of the Kent family home. Superman is outmatched as Ally not surprisingly really gets the oblivion stones as her merger takes place right in front of everyone. Tal-Rho of all people saves Superman letting him go as Ally had seconds earlier told John-El to go find his other self and merge with him. Superman is in hot pursuit as the episode ends with him entering the portal to return home. The episode opening and closing with going through and back through the portal was a nice touch as this episode was fantastic from beginning to end. We got so much information on Bizarro Lois, Jordan and others. Ally's transformation has begun and will be complete very soon it looks like. The real highlight here though for me was John-El's transformation into Superboy. It was a nice change to see him actually become Superboy as he is supposed to be as opposed to what he is on Earth-Prime. This episode was just great featuring a strong narrative, great action and superb character moments. Superman and Lois is hands down the best DC TV show on the air right now. Long may it continue.
