The Flash 8x7 : Lockdown review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
After last weeks return and a rather great episode this weeks episode of The Flash falls right back into the traps that have plagued this show for quite some time now. The episode opens up with Alegra and Chester at Star Labs with Chester not wanting to take anytime away from the main computer in case any crimes or alien invasions take place while he is gone. Alegra soon turns up with lunch for them both but it's not long before crimes are reported within the city. 3 in fact. The Flash is on it he says over communications and we see him on it indeed as he rounds him criminals and brings them to CCPD. Upon arrival he gets the usual applause but Kristen Kramer doesn't exactly seem at all pleased with more criminals just being dropped off at her precinct. The Flash races off and Barry arrives running down the steps above the main office. He talks to Kramer who tells him that the work load of criminals being brought to her for charging is getting way too much and it's gonna take a lot of leg work to get everything done. Barry agrees to work with her and help her with this workload which ties directly into the big bad of this episode and it's none other than a returning Goldface whom we last saw in season 5.
His plan comes into motion as he gasses everyone present in the CCPD which includes Kramer, Barry and other cops. When they all wake up they find that they're cuffed by meta-cuffs but also these cuffs are tied to Goldface's belt which when someone tries to use their powers it all goes boom. This means Barry can't escape without using his powers and with a lot of people around this could spell trouble. So Goldface why is he here?? well after getting some information from Amunet Black (I suddenly got season 5 flashbacks and shuddered) Goldface is at CCPD to collect some special items in the armory. This is when Goldface remembers who Barry is as back in season 5 Barry used the name ''The Chemist'' to get the upper hand in his fight and ultimate defeat against the villain. The armory is soon in store and when Goldface gets what he needs and opens the case he is meant with nothing. Kramer is called into the room and it's here where we learn just exactly what Goldface wants. He wants the meta-bullets that Kristen Kramer had commissioned. Both him and Amunet have a buyer lined up for sale and thus he needs them to meet that quota.
The episode draws to a close as Barry is taken hostage as he tells Goldface that he needs a dark matter scanner to locate the bullets which is back at his lab. So it's off to the lab where Goldface shares a cringeworthy phone call with Amunet which even has Barry laughing to himself. Barry is still tinkering away with this dark matter scanner but not before he somehow had time to tweak it which causes Goldface and his goon to be hit with a major soundwave change which stops them in their tracks leading to Barry and Kramer making it back to CCPD. It is here where Kramer sees that her bracelet has been turned off thanks to her powers which as we known include her being able to mimic any other meta human she comes into contact with. Barry convinces her to use her power to mimic Goldface's power to which she doesn't agree with at first but when the villain appears back at CCPD threatening to kill another cop Kramer steps up and does indeed mimic his power. As for Barry with nobody around he uses his powers which leads to the bracelet around his wrist exploding with him out running the blast. The Flash arrives back in the CCPD once again and like the beginning of the episode once again saves the day albeit in a very underwhelming way this time. The episode isn't over yet however as The Flash meets up with Kramer in her office after the entire hostage situation. He tells her that not only will he train her how to use her mimic powers more but he also is going to reveal her identity to which Kramer responds with I knew it was you Allen. Turns out Barry left behind his singed bracelet when he escaped from it's blast which could only mean one thing..he used his power of super speed. The two shake hands as the episode ends but we aren't actually done yet. As we're soon at Joe's house with her and Iris having just eaten dinner. Joe goes to check on his daughter to make sure she is still sleeping as Iris says she will pack up some food to take home for Barry who is working late. She goes to get some with a fork which almost instantly disappears in her hand. She looks around for a second before everything that was on the table then disappears. Joe walks into the house wearing a jacket and carrying two boxes. Iris is in a state of shock to say the least and brushes off Joe's questions but something is happening here and it doesn't look good. The episode ends with Iris's eyes glowing a bright green. Has she gotten powers now? or is something sinister at play?? this was an interesting end much like last week involving Iris. As for the episode as a whole it was pretty meh to say the least. The main chunk of the episode with Barry, Kramer and Goldface was fine but nothing really special while everything else in between involving Caitlin, Frost and Chillblaine was cringeworthy. I did appreciate the conflict between Caitlin and Frost but overall I'm not into this story at all. After last weeks episode I guess I expected too much as this is just The Flash of seasons 5-7 at it's absolute worst which is a shame.
