The Flash 8x6 : Impulsive Excessive Disorder review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
The Flash returns after what felt like an age away. The last time we saw Team Flash they have survived and overcome Armageddon together. The episode actually doesn't open up in present day but back at the end of season 7 when Iris and Barry renewed their wedding vows. We see Barry and Iris talking to Nora and Bart before wishing them on their way. Barry tells them to keep the future safe. Bart and Nora are soon off to the future and arrive in 2049 with everything seemingly in place. That is until a wave of energy flies right past them leaving plenty of changes in it's wake. The first of these changes is that Jay Garrick is alive in the future as he arrives at the apartment complete with Big Belly Burger in hand. Nora is shocked by seeing Jay Garrick of course but it's Bart who is really taken a back because as we know Jay has been his mentor of sorts in becoming The Flash (Impulse), what Bart doesn't know yet however is that he isn't actually The Flash here someone else is. At least that's what Jay says. He also mentions someone named Aunt Rose who is his wife. That wasn't who Jay was married to in the original timeline so it's changes a plenty. Nora and Bart begin to act weird around Jay before rushing off to the Flash Museum where they see just how much has changed. And it's start off point?? 2013 on New Years Eve where Joe West gets shot and badly injured. So it's off to 2013 then.
Upon arrival in 2013 Nora and Bart attempt to come up with a plan that involves saving Joe from getting shot and in theory not messing anything else up or making anything else up. It is here in CCPD above the main office where we're reintroduced to Eddie Thawne as he talks to Nora and Bart who pretend to be interns in the CSI department. This is the first time we've seen Eddie since the end of season 1 which was a long, long time ago. Nothing has changed at all expect for his relationship with Joe which is pretty bad to say the least. Joe who calls him pretty boy detective is fixated on beginning a relationship with Cecil at this point. Cecil is fresh off a divorce and isn't really interested in a new relationship so early infact she blows off Joe pretty hard but as we all know it ends well for the two. Back to Nora and Bart now and when a robbery is reported they rush to the scene where Joe and Eddie are. The suspect is a man who ends up dropping his gun which leads to it going off with the bullet directly going towards Joe. Bart acts quickly and moves Joe out of the way, even placing a kiss on his grandpa's face which was funny. The bullet misses Joe and hits the car window as the suspect is arrested. Has Bart messed things up even worse?? well technically both Nora and him have as when they're leaving the area someone over hears them thanks to their meta-human abilities. This person turns out to be the future leader of the Royal Flush Gang. The gang which are not supposed to surface until the future are put into early motion because of this as the leader discovers that other people not just her have powers.
The episode draws to a close as Bart and Nora learn of the Royal Flush Gang's plan which involves a Casino Heist and 10 million dollars. Things have gotten worse for sure which leads to Bart feeling incredibly useless. He even goes to see his dad whom at this point is in a coma after just being struck by lightning recently. The siblings get to work on stopping the gang who show up at the Casino and inform everyone that they've planted bombs in the building. Can Nora and Bart stop them? Nora goes to get the bombs while Bart poses as the Casino manager attempting to stall the gang. His mind gets read by the leader which he gets around by thinking about her and how they might have a future together, he's definitely not from the future which he first thinks about. It was a nice way around things as Nora finds one of the bombs. They're timed directly to go off when the New Year drops so they've only seconds to get the rest of the bombs out which there is 5 in total. Nora saves the day as you can imagine in a really cool scene as both she and Bart have seemingly saved the day and time period. They go back to their original time period to end the episode as Jay Garrick is still there. The timeline is still not intact fully but Bart is just happy to have his Uncle Jay by his side again. Jay Garrick funnily says he has a meeting to go to with President Luthor before laughing it off. A President Lex Luthor mention, brilliant stuff indeed. The episode ends back in present day as we finally get to see Team Flash after Armageddon. Everyone is present expect for Iris who is running behind. Once everyone is together they all hold hands and Barry speeds them all off together to celebrate their victory. But all is it not as it seems as the hairbrush that Iris had been using vanishes into thin air with green energy floating off of it. Could this be because of Nora and Bart's actions? probably. We'll have to wait and see. That's how the episode ends and overall I liked it quite a bit. Not perfect but was really fun even emotional at some points. Seeing old characters like Eddie and even a look at Booster Gold whom was just introduced in Legends of Tomorrow was so interesting. This isn't The Flash at it's best but Bart and Nora were running at break neck speed here!
