Superman & Lois 2x9 : 30 Days and 30 Nights review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

This weeks episode of Superman and Lois features little to no Superman and somehow manages to be an excellent character driven episode which take some doing. But they did it and they did it really well. The episode opens up with Ally Alston being released from her D.O.D prison by one of her followers. She is given a suit which will allow her to go inside of the portal that we last saw in the mines. She ventures inside and vanishes into the portal seemingly going to the other side. We're shown Clark and Lois in bed which leads to him hearing the commotion and rushing off. Superman arrives in the mines but is told he is too late and that without proper protection he won't be able to traverse the portal. Superman begins to fly around the area just outside of the portal creating a big pool of air. He emerges from it and goes straight through the portal screaming as pieces of him begin to fall from his body. He goes through but we don't see him anymore for this episode and we aren't the only ones as pretty much everyone around the world notices Superman's absence. On the news it's stated that various things have been happening with Superman nowhere to be found to help. Later we learn that he as been gone around 30 days which is a month so he is not around for quite some time. What could've became of him??

With his dad out of commission in this episode we really see Jordan begin to use his powers probably the most ever. It begins as he goes to the location of a fire which the timing of is not great at all as everyone is at Lana's Mayor Campaign which is mere hours away from crowning the new Mayor of Smallville. Jordan rushes off leaving Sarah in the dark yet again. Something that comes back to bite Jordan a bit later which I expected given that living a dual life never works out well for these characters. So as Jordan is off trying to fight the fire he ends up actually saving Sarah's dad Kyle from the blaze leaving him with only minor injuries compared to what could've happened. Jordan who is sporting a hoodie going full blown vigilante gets some aid from John Henry who has been filling in for Superman while he has been ''away'' it is John Henry who stops the fire properly before telling Lois what Jordan was doing and has been doing with her father. Jordan protests against his mom in which was a pretty heated argument. But that's all on hold for the time being as Johnathan finally comes clean about who he got the XK from and after getting promised by Sam Lane that he will protect the person he brings his girlfriend Candice to the Kent family home. It is here where she is questioned about how and why she had been dealing. It all leads to Sam, Lois and Jordan going out to a secluded area where the XK is being developed and distributed in a warehouse like scale and manner.

The episode draws to a close as Lois and her father get caught snooping around outside leading to them being taken inside where it's not exactly looking peachy for them. Jordan listens to their cries for help and he rushes to their aid using his powers to the fullest extent possible defeating the two main men in charge. Jordan's first victory and joy from this occasion is brought to a screeching halt as when he arrives back at Lana's campaign building he is not only met with the news that Lana is now Mayor of Smallville but he is shocked when Sarah questions him about what he is hiding from her. He has never put her first even though she hasn't exactly been a model girlfriend. She hands back the necklace he gave her and says that she is breaking up with him leaving Jordan devastated. The episode comes to a close back at the Kent Farm where Lois tries to cheer Jordan up but to no real avail. Johnathan is soon seen coming across the farm but it's not the Johnathan we know in fact it seems to be the Bizarro version of him. He speaks backwards like the Bizarro of Superman but then speaks normally stating that Superman was too late. Too late for what you may ask? well we don't really know as the last thing we see is Superman on the ground looking up at something with a real serious face which could mean literally anything. That's how the episode end and what makes it all worse is that this show now goes on yet another hiatus and will return in about 3 weeks. What a cliffhanger! as for the episode overall it was thoroughly enjoyable with plenty of great character moments and a strong narrative. Lana becoming Mayor was expected but it will be interesting to see how things pan out for her and her family going forward. Jordan being Superboy like was so cool to see and overall I'll finish with this. This is how you do an episode without Superman present throughout!
