Batwoman 3x12 : We're All Mad Here review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

The penultimate episode of Batwoman's third season has come and gone and with it we got a look at what Marquis is really capable of, a change to Alice's origin and beginning point and Ryan and Sophie finally becoming an item? the episode opens up with Alice who we see steal the Joker buzzer and use it on herself. Everything seems to work accordingly and she becomes Beth Kane again, she even goes on trial and is declared sane therefore she is let out of custody and all charges dropped against her. Outside of the court she attempts to give Ryan the buzzer but it's completely drained and therefore won't emit and electrical pulse. Beth goes to her original gravesite where she was thought to be buried but she gets interrupted by Ocean who died back in season 2. He approaches her and says that she doesn't deserve a happy ending. He begins to cough blood and literally falls into her arms. Beth begins to cry as the scene shifts from the slight bright of the outside area to the dark dingy feel of Alice's hideout as we see that everything that has happened thus far has just been a figment of Alice's imagination / fantasy. Her mind is getting worse which leads to her going to see Mary even though Mary gave her everything to get out of town in the last episode. Alice has a lot going on in this episode but more on her in a bit.

Batwoman in this episode is hot on the tail of Marquis and finds out a lot about his plan and his targets. One of his targets includes Barbara Kean, ex-wife of Jim Gordon and mother of JJ Gordon. Jada who is present as Ryan goes through Marquis's plans and files gets spooked by this and leaves the apartment with Sophie hot on her tail. Jada let's slip that Barbara is a member of the Black Glove Society and tells Sophie that if she cares about Ryan she will keep this information to herself. Sophie doesn't have time to even agree as Jada ends up getting kidnapped by Marquis who has a plan of getting various Black Glove Society members together including Barbara, Mario Falcone, a member of the Arkham family and even his mother Jada. He also has a special guest in Alice who watches on from the balcony of the room as events unfold with Marquis show no mercy to any member of the Black Glove Society.

The episode draws to a close as Alice shows her true intentions and fights back against Marquis attempting to get the Joker buzzer for herself. The two fight it out a little bit before coming to a stop when Marquis reveals just what happened to him on the day when The Joker turned his life upside down. The bus Joker took hostage had Marquis on board with a whole other bunch of kids. Batman was not far behind but infront of the bus was none other than the car which was occupied by Beth, Kate Kane and their mother. So in theory both Marquis and Alice were born on the very same day. It's an interesting way to tie it all together but does sort of come out of left field. Alice manages to somehow get the buzzer for herself but gets stopped by Sophie and Batwing who send her back to Arkham fully insane and struggling with her self destructive mind. As for Marquis he gets away but not before Ryan reveals herself to him as she rescues everyone who had been tortured by Marquis. Jada refuses to let Ryan go after Marquis saying that she will not leave her ever again. Back at Ryan's place and her relationship is pretty much out in the open as Mary and Luke learn that they slept together the night previous. The episode ends with Marquis who we see find the bat-cave inside of Wayne Enterprises. He descends down into the cave and laughs before saying let's have some fun as the episode fades out with only next weeks finale now remaining. Believe it or not I enjoyed this episode a lot more than the past few. It wasn't perfect but the Alice / Beth stuff was interesting and made the episode for me. Marquis continues to do not do anything for me really and Ryan is just amazing in every episode no matter what is going on. A solid episode in a not so solid season.
