Legends Of Tomorrow 7x8 : Paranoid Android review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Legends of Tomorrow returns from it's mid season hiatus with a new intro, android versions of the Legends and a whole lot of timeline meddling. Right off the bat it should be noted that this is strictly an episode about the android / robot Legends we saw during the closing moments of the mid season finale. Apart from a short recap we don't see the OG Legends at all during this episode. It leaves the door open for an interesting episode to say the least and it is exactly that interesting. The episode opens up with a new intro like I mentioned and it showcases each Robo-Legend, Nate is a giant buff muscle head now complete with huge comedy like arms fit for punching the bad guys away and fixing the timeline. Sara is still the Captain, Gary is in his Alien form at all times, Spooner and Behrad are constantly at loggerheads, Zari is a technical wizard, Astra is her usual self almost and Ava is in full on Doctor mode being the one to install parts into the droids whenever they get injured or compromised. Ava's role plays a big part of the narrative throughout and comes under investigation more and more as the episode goes on, coming to a blow when Sara gets shot and goes under the knife to be treated, almost immediately she gets red flags and goes to Zari to try and investigate exactly what is happening. More on that a bit later though.

With this group of Robo-Legends they're tasked with restoring the timeline to it's normal state, they have a no kill mission in order but take things a bit too aggressively especially when it comes to kidnapping a general who is supposed to die in the Chernobyl disaster. Speaking of the Chernobyl disaster in the last episode the Legends along with Dr Gwen Davies attempted to aid people out of the area with a warning but that will only cause some more major headaches and problems so it's up to the Robo-Legends to put a stop to this but things don't exactly go according to plan as this is when Sara ends up getting shot thus leading to them all going back to the waverider so that Captain Lance can be repaired.

The episode draws to a close as after being worked on by Ava we learn thanks to some hacking skills by Zari that it's not actually Ava that is in charge here it is Gideon and not only has she taken complete control of the ship but these Legends who think they're actually doing good are indeed androids with a CPU in their head which leads to them being able to be controlled, forced to do anything Gideon sees fit for purpose. Sara takes exception to this and after a botch attempted at trying to fix the mess from earlier by ''killing'' a doctor that has top secret plans for nuclear waste and it's disposal ends up telling all to the other Robo-Legends on board the ship once she returns. At first they're all on the side of the Captain but once Zari returns from attempting to shut down Gideon she informs everyone that Gideon will make them stronger and stronger with each new upgrade, Zari has already taken an upgrade that has increased her hacking skills and overall processing power. Sara stands her ground however and says no to what Zari is suggesting but ends up getting necked with a needle that knocks her out. The next time we see Sara she is back out in the field as she kills the same doctor from earlier but this time with no words and most importantly no mercy. Assassin Sara is back and she is here to stay it seems. The episode ends with a bizarre and totally out of left field PSA involving Nate where he gets compared to John Cena with how buff he is. A weird scene that didn't need to be here in my opinion in an episode that I'm having a hard time taking in. The entire first half was so bad it was almost laughable, the second half picked things up though only to just drop it all back to where we were at the beginning with no real progress made. I did enjoy the different versions of the Legends though but overall this episode just made me long for the OG Legends and I hope they return as soon as they can.
