The Flash 8x5 : Armageddon, Part five review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Here we are at the final lap of the Armageddon Crossover event on The Flash and what a ride it's been thus far. This episode opens up with Barry rushing to see Joe after we saw him talking to his adoptive father on the phone. Barry immediately hugs Joe the moment he sees him and explains what exactly happened and how Eobard Thawne created his own Reverse Flashpoint where he literally took over Barry Allen's life, was about to marry Iris and killed Joe. But after Barry's heroics in last weeks episode he has restored the timeline to it's proper state. Well not exactly how it was as Damien Darhk soon appears before Joe and Barry. Immediately Barry asks how he is here to which Damien says he is here because of his connection to the time stone which Barry has in his possession. He will soon leave this timeline and every other timeline however and with his time running out he just wants to see his daughter one final time which he does at the end of the episode but more on that later. At the end of last weeks episode we saw the Reverse Flash declare that things aren't over yet and here we see him show up at CCPD where he basically uses his speed and powers to bait The Flash to come to him. Oh he comes but not before none other than the Green Arrow herself Mia Queen shows up stating that she is looking for her brother William has been kidnapped / missing for 2 years now. Reverse Flash gets the better of her but The Flash arrives just in the nick of time. He rushes Eobard to the other side of the Police Precinct where we learn that Eobard Thawne is moment by moment being erased from this timeline just like Barry was from his Reverse Flashpoint. What will Team Flash decide to do??

Back at Star Labs and with Thawne locked in a force field as his time in existence ticks down we see Team Flash try to come to terms with a request he has made to Barry. He wants Barry to save him but if he does he's just going to keep on trying to destroy his life. Something he even mentions to Barry as the two have a great scene together where we learn what happened during their very first meeting in the future and just how much Eobard hates Barry Allen and everything he stands for. His rage runs deep and it's clear to see. But with all of that being said will Barry and the rest of the team go through with just letting him die and fade into nothingness?? Joe doesn't seem to agree with the plan and after giving both Iris and Barry a stern talking to things take a different route as Barry says that he will take Eobard's speed and sever his connection to the Negative Speedforce. But before any of that can even happen The Flash still has Despero to deal with. Arriving back from the future Despero says that Barry did prevent Armageddon but Eobard Thawne must perish in this time to prevent anything like it from happening ever again. This leads to what is and has been the true big bad of this crossover in Despero fully becoming the villain and taking the fight to The Flash. He even possesses Mia Queen which leads to her attacking the team as Barry is off fighting Despero.

The episode draws to a close as Mia attacks Team Flash like I mentioned but it doesn't last long at all as she gets talked out of it by Iris and Cecil who mention William to her and just how strong she is. She comes round but the same can't be said for The Flash as he gets beat by Despero the first time round but after finally getting some tech infused Gold Boots from Chester which look really cool by the way he takes the fight to Despero and manages to defeat him by not just using his Flame of Pyter against him but Flash actually severs the connection as Despero soon bursts into flames before disappearing into thin air. I do hope he will return in the future as he was easily one of the highlights of this crossover at least for me. The actor was good and the design while not perfect was impressive for a CW shows budget. So with Despero now gone Barry goes back to Eobard and like I mentioned earlier removes his speed taking the only thing Eobard truly needed and wanted. Eobard ends up being taken to ARGUS which is where Cisco is. So that's that, both villains have been taken care of in their own ways so there's only one thing left to do. Celebrate right?! everyone takes some time out to celebrate and enjoy themselves after what has been a hectic time. This is where Nora Darhk has to say goodbye once again to her father and after this she meets Barry and co who stutter about telling her what happened but Joe steps up and takes her away to tell her what has happened. The episode ends as Barry toasts to destiny and what's to come next. But the episode has to end on a cliffhanger of course and said cliffhanger happens in CCPD again where we're zoomed in on a photo of the CCPD officers in 2014. Joe and even Eddie Thawne are present. Interesting given Eddie is set to return in the back half of this season. But that's not the cliffhanger, as we zoom further into the photo we see both Nora and Bart Allen appear behind the officers. They've seemingly time traveled and are in 2014 but why?? well we'll have to wait and see and the wait is going to be a bit long as this show won't return until March 2022 and on a new night Wednesday. This episode was a tad disappointing. Not bad by any means but given what came before hand I was expecting a bit more. Barry and Eobard's scenes were fantastic as always and The Flash vs Despero fight scene ending with The Flash getting his Gold Boots was perfect in my opinion. As a whole however the Armageddon Crossover event was a major step up in quality for this show. It wasn't perfect mind but after what we got last season this was very enjoyable. The wait now begins for this show to return in March and here's hoping it can keep up the better quality in the back half of the season as we'll find out just why Nora and Bart Allen have time traveled. Until then Team Flash!
