Stargirl 2x13 : Summer School Chapter Thirteen : Review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Stargirls second season has come to it's conclusion and boy oh boy what an episode to end it on. Starting right where last weeks ended we see and learn that Eclipso needs Courtney to complete his plan. His plan begins to come into position when he says that he plans on bringing the Shadowlands into this realm of existence. At the end of last weeks episode we saw that Courtney, Yolanda and Cindy were all gunning for Eclipso and they soon turn up along with Pat. When they do all hell breaks loose as Eclipso plays tricks on them all. Yolanda visions that she is fighting the original Wildcat while Cindy has to deal with her younger self and Pat comes face to face with a version of himself. Everyone soon snaps out of it all as Eclipso now in his true hellish form begins to run loose in Blue Valley declaring that it is almost his time and that he is about to become all powerful. In a great scene soon after Rick who fails to fix his hourglass confronts Eclipso but he's brought some back up. It's Solomon Grundy who runs at Eclipso like a freight train. The two get into quite the tussle but Eclipso ends up killing Grundy by using a dark energy blast that rips a whole right through Grundy killing him. Rick is not strong enough either as Eclipso almost brushes him aside before going back to the rest of the JSA.
Speaking of the JSA they're all struggling in their own way here but it is Courtney who Eclipso needs like I mentioned. And gets her he does as the two finally come face to face. Well technically it's not face to face since Pat is being used as bait as Eclipso tells Courtney to say that she hates him or else he will break Pat's arm. Courtney yells at him saying ''I hate you'' which is not surprising given what he has done to not only her but her friends and family. This however is what the monster wants and by saying this Eclipso is able to completely overtake Courtney as she is forced to surrender to the darkness and hatred inside of her..
The episode and season draws to a close as things are looking pretty bleak for not only Courtney but everyone else. Back at the Whitmore home Jenny wakes up with in a sweat after a vision of Courtney being overtaken by Eclipso which is exactly what has happened. As for Mike and the new Thunderbolt owner Jakeem they're back at Pat's garage trying to fix S.T.R.I.P.E, they do end up fixing the robot but get overpowered by Eclipso once again. With Courtney seemingly no longer in control a plan is put into place of killing the host by Cindy to which Yolanda flat out denies. They will not kill Courtney as that just makes them the old JSA all over again. So how will Courtney be saved and Eclipso defeated?? with the power of light as none other than Starman himself shows up to help Courtney. He grabs onto the Cosmic Staff along with Courtney who is still holding it. Memories of her friends and family flash before her eyes as Courtney manages to overcome the darkness as Eclipso is flung right out of her and onto the pavement. Now vulnerable he gets blasted with Jenny's Green Lantern ring, Stargirl / Starman's Cosmic Staff and the Thunderbolt which when all combined together turn Eclipso into a slice of burnt toast..and no that isn't just a joke. You see Jakeem wished for that beforehand and the Thunderbolt fulfilled his wish. Put it in a safe place says Rick as the toast is shown to be half burnt. This scene of defeating Eclipso was so well done though. Not only were all the JSA present but so were Artemis, her dad Sportsmaster, Tigress and even a returning Shade who thanks to the Shadowlands is able to return in tip top form. The visual of everyone on this show coming together to defeat Eclipso was absolutely perfect and captured just how good this show is at not only bringing everyone together but just sheer character development. So with Eclipso defeated everything is seemingly back to normal and while it is for now we're given some pretty big teases to what comes next. First off we learn that Court, Mike and her parents have some new neighbors. It's none other than The Crocks. Artemis, Sportsmaster and Tigress. Have they changed their ways truly?? we shall see. We also get a title card for season 3 with the subtitle ''Frenemies'' so that is quite an interesting bit of info. It's coming in 2022 but before we wrap up here we actually end up getting a look at the big bad for next season. It is a villain named Dr Bones (Mr Bones) and he is seemingly intent on going to Blue Valley to find out about these hero's and villains. And that's that. What a finale but most importantly what a journey this season. Season 2 was much like season 1 of Stargirl just a massive success. Season 3 has a lot to live up to but I'm sure they've got what it takes to again make it special. I will see you in Season 3 as I shall be once again covering and reviewing it. Until then Stargirl!
So that was Stargirl season 2. An unreal journey filled with lots of highs and lows for the characters involved. The sheer amount of development here was so good as that is what this show really excels at. Brec Bassinger was just phenomenal here as Courtney Whitmore and so was everyone else but the show is carried by her and she just astounds me every episode. She was born to play this role in my opinion. As for her big bad in Eclipso we didn't get too much of his true form which I really did like because when we did see him in his hellish form he was absolutely terrifying. Special shoutout to his first time showing up earlier in the season as it's stuck in my memory banks every since. With each passing episode Stargirl season 2 just seemed to get better and better as the storytelling and writing was on point. It's on par with how good last seasons was for sure with some episodes truly being just brilliant here. Who knows what season 3 holds but I for one can't wait to see what happens next. That's it for Stargirl season 2. It's been quite the journey like I mentioned and one that I look forward to spending again someday in my own time as I look back over it in the coming months. This season and episode get top marks indeed! See you in Season 3 Courtney
