Legends Of Tomorrow 7x6 : Deus Ex Latrina review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
After last weeks episode that introduced Matt Ryan's new character Dr Gwen Davies can this weeks episode improve upon last weeks episode that while good just felt like there was something missing. The episode opens up in the future as we after a short break return to Bishop and find out that not only has he constructed his very own waverider but he has installed Gideon on board. This Gideon is a far cry from the Gideon with the Legends as this Gideon AI is compact, intelligent and heavily wants to protect the timeline at all costs. It's much like her original design before Rip Hunter implanted a protocol in her mainframe. Bishop soon brings his clone of Ava on board the waverider and declares himself a Time Master. He swears by an oath given by Gideon as he is now not only a Time Master but also Captain of the waverider. More on Bishop a bit later as soon after this we're back with the Legends who at the end of last weeks episode crash landed into an entirely new time period. After some investigation Gary says that the flora makes it look like they're in pre-historic times. Could they actually be in the time of the dinosaurs? they all eventually end up splitting into teams to get things done in their own way. Sara and Ava especially seem to be having some trouble as both seem to get increasingly more and more stressed given the situation they find themselves in.
We're soon back with Bishop on board the waverider and learn that it was in fact him who blew up the waverider at the end of season 6. It was a really bad kept secret given what happened a few episodes back but this was seriously underwhelming for me. Bishop again? really?? the character wasn't great in season 6 and he still isn't great here. It's a bit more interesting what happens later with him and the Gideon AI he has on board the ship becoming rouge and possibly the true big bad of the season but overall it's just meh. So with Bishop having blown up the original waverider trapping the Legends in 1925 Texas who was behind the J Edgar Hoover robot? well Bishop was behind that too in yet another groan inducing moment. He has pretty much been behind everything so far this season as his actions not only shift and change the timeline they cause the Gideon AI to get more and more restless with him. So much to the point where she has Ava sucked right out of the ship into the tempural zone and also replaces this version of Bishop with a robot in his own time back in Vancouver where he will live out what happened during season 6. It's all confusing to be honest
The episode draws to a close as we learn more of Gwen Davies backstory. He opens up to Zari and informs her that he was in the first world war. He and a friend were tasked with getting information of needing backup to a superior officer. While on the way Davies's friend was gunned down and died from his injuries. Davies is not only haunted by this ever since but also seems to be suffering from some form of PTSD. It all comes back to him even more so when both he and Zari get ambushed by members of the area's army. Army in pre-historic times?? well no because they aren't in pre-historic times they're in fact in 1986 at the site of Chernobyl. It's pretty full on as the cause of Chernobyl is mere moments away. Davies who tells Zari that he was deeply in love with his fallen comrade attempts to right the wrongs as after roping in both Zari and Behrad he gives a warning to the people in the surrounding area which he thinks will save lives. It'll save lives sure but given that Chernobyl is such a big and pivotal point in history their meddling will surely have consequences right?? well you'd think so but back on board the waverider and Gideon tells Bishop that Chernobyl is a fixed point in history that can't be messed with. Bishop soon comes to his senses and ejects the waverider via an escape toilet that plummets him right down to Earth. He just so happens to be right above where the Legends are as they get Gwen Davies time travel machine working once again. The machine evaporates into the air and Bishop ends up getting caught in it's updraft as he seemingly time travels with the Legends and Gwen Davies. Where will they end up? who knows but I guess we'll find out next week. This episode was fine. I mean it wasn't incredible or even good it was just kind of there. I did like Gwen Davies backstory it gave him an entirely new feeling and made me really feel for him it solidifies himself as an entirely different character to John Constantine which I really appreciate, but Bishop again being the one behind what happened to the Legends was so underwhelming to me. That being said the idea of a rouge Gideon AI being the true big bad is interesting so I guess we'll see how it unfolds. Not bad Legends but maybe try harder next time eh?
