Legends Of Tomorrow 7x5 : It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Scientist review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

This weeks episode of Legends of Tomorrow introduces us to the man who invented time travel. Named Dr Gwen Davies and played by none other than Matt Ryan who was Constantine all along just how can crucial is this character and is he any good? the episode begins as the Legends finally arrive in New York thanks to Gary who went ahead on a train and used Constantine's key to let the rest of the gang into New York. All it took was 4 episodes but finally we're here and Dr Gwen Davies is the priority. Sara, Ava and Gary look for a way around New York and end up getting into a bit of a scuffle with a hot dog salesman who ends up shooting Sara telling them all that they're outlaws. Sara overcomes her bullet wound given that she is half alien of course and after getting a map of New York she and Gary end up going alone to find Dr Davies. Ava stays behind with everyone else including Nate and Zari who are still trying to work out their relationship. Not only that but they are also trying to dig deeper into the whole J Edgar Hoover robot ordeal. Zari uses her tech wizardry to dig deep into the files inside of the robot. What she finds is a to do list. One which includes things like attending a tax conference but most importantly there is a very important detail here..kill the legends. So whoever programmed this robot and another that we see later has surely been the one behind the waverider being destroyed right??

We're soon back with Sara and Gary who meet up with Dr Gwen Davies as he is leaving his work place of Edison Labs. Turns out he is working for none other than Thomas Edison the genius inventor. Sara tries to talk to Davies but he brushes her off acting very timid and cautious. Sara ends up bumping into him which causes him to drop his bag of files. On the ground Sara helps him pick up his files but manages to take the blueprints for his time travel machine without him noticing. Back with Ava and the others and after making some copies of blueprints so that they can get to work on constructing the time travel machine they soon learn that not only do they not have the parts to construct said machine but it will also take many years to even do so. They need the original thing it seems and after Sara breaks into Gwen Davies apartment she finds the solution to all there problems. It turns out Davies has already made his time travel machine all by himself. It still needs a piece of technology to help it fully work but Gary who goes along with Sara the following day manages to scavenge a piece of tech. Speaking of Gary he ends up getting Davies in trouble with Thomas Edison as he ends up getting sent to a mental hospital. The Legends still have the blue prints for his design but after turning on the machine both Sara and Behrad are left bewildered when not only the Time Bureau disappears both so do Gary and even Ava. Turns out that they need to do this the way it was supposed to which makes sense given how fragile the timeline truly is.

The episode draws to a close as Sara comes up with a plan to break Gwen Davies out of his new found mental hospital surroundings. Sara informs him that she is a time traveler to which at first he refuses to believe but soon enough he believes her. The two agree to work together as they both agree on a deal to help one another in different ways. Sara gets Davies out and it's not long before he ends up meeting everyone. There's a great running joke throughout here stating that Davies looks familiar but the Legends can't quite make it all out. He gets compared to everyone except Constantine, even Zari says he reminds her of Ray which was flat out hilarious. At the end of last weeks episode we saw that Astra, Spooner and Gideon were hot on the tail of the Legends and after some shenanigans they do end up just about making it to New York. Well technically Gideon makes it first as Astra and Spooner make it to the outskirts. With one final act Astra conjures a lightning spell to that she uses on a giant pole which causes the entire of New York City to lose power. Why does she do this?? well if not stopped both the Legends and Gwen Davies will die while they attempt to get back to 2021. Both Astra and Spooner soon arrive back at Davies place and are greeted by everyone including Gideon who just made it in the nick of time. A Legends reunion takes place as everyone is together again which was a really great moment. The episode ends as Davies turns on his time travel machine as both he and the Legends time jump from 1925. They soon arrive in a new area but it's definitely not 2021 according to Sara but it's not said just where or even when they are. The episode ends with the Legends seemingly in a new time and place. So yeah that was the episode it was very enjoyable if a bit slow at points. Dr Gwen Davies is a great addition here however and overall he will surely be great throughout this season. There was more going on here throughout also like a robot of Thomas Edison showing up and the mystery of the rouge waverider is getting closer to being solved. Not the best episode this season by any means but still very much a fun watch.
