Batwoman 3x4 : Antifreeze review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

This weeks episode of Batwoman opens up as we see someone literally frozen in place being tested on. They attempt to stand up but crumble as they do with their body completely frozen over. We then see a man stating that they're doing reanimation tests with what is sure to be some sort of Freeze formula. We soon see Ryan and Luke at her apartment as she tells Luke that she has been invited to a major press junket thanks to her brother Marquis. Mary soon enters the room stating that something is really wrong as she spent the night in Gotham Park sleeping on a bench. Oddly enough both Luke and Ryan don't seem to care about this but given Mary's explanation it's understandable. Ryan promises to listen to Mary soon but now her mind is on the press junket which is highlighting a 30 under 30 list of successful people within Gotham. We see Ryan at the event with a member of Wayne Enterprises by her side. She tries to avoid being seen with her brother Marquis given what their mother threatened to do if she kept trying to interfere with her life and business. Sophie and her sister Jordan are also present here as Sophie confesses to her sister that she has had a dream about Ryan. Nothing sexual but given the looks the two share not only here but have shared throughout the season could it mean something a lot more than Sophie lets on?? as for Jordan she is present to give a speech but things take a dark turn for her as she ends up getting kidnapped and like the person at the beginning of the episode she gets frozen left upstairs at a hotel room.

At Arkham Asylum we meet back up with Alice once again who is showing clear signs of her mind slipping further and further away. A member of security enters her room with letters for her but she ends up snapping his neck. When another security members gets called by her we see that nobody or nothing is in the room. Alice freaked out by this asks for Renee Montoya who can help her out of Arkham on some sort of leave. And leave she does as Alice is soon back in the game helping Sophie, Ryan and pretty much everyone else uncover just who or what kidnapped Jordan and who has been freezing up people of Gotham. It turns out that a secret organisation is behind all of this. Named The Black Glove Society they are a top secret organisation working within Gotham.

The episode draws to a close as Mary comes to the realization that plans are the key to saving Jordan whose core body heat is constantly changing. Jordan does end up getting saved thanks to Mary's quick thinking but the really kicker here is with Ryan who after being spotted with Marquis at the press junket ends up getting put on blast. Turns out that Jada Jet has leaked files to Vesper Fairchild who we always hear throughout this show. She in turn leaks documents of millions of dollars from Wayne Enterprises being used as the blame falls solely on Ryan here. Of course Ryan who we see later learn that it's not actually her that is going to get in trouble as ARGUS will take the blame for helping her in some dealings. Luke says he has a friend who agrees to help which can only be John Diggle. The money being spent and thrown around is solely down to Bruce Wayne who over the years lived quite the life according to Charlie who is a close Wayne Enterprises employee. Ryan and Luke are soon seen talking again as Ryan refuses to back down stating that her mother is not going to take away everything that she has built. She is not going to take away her calling as Ryan really shows her passion here which was great. The episode ends back with Jada Jet who it turns out not really surprisingly has been working with the Black Glove Society. She hired them to create a new form of the freeze formula which can be used to both thaw and unthaw victims. Jada says that maybe it's time for her son to take a leave of absence which can only mean she is going to attempt to freeze him? the episode ends there and to be honest I really didn't love this one. It felt meandering and boring at times which is a shame because last weeks was really good. Ryan's relationship with her estranged mother is intriguing however as it's heating up nicely and can literally go anywhere from here. All in all though this episode wasn't horrible just nothing special by any means. Here's hoping it can pick up next week!
