Supergirl 6x17 : I Believe in a Thing Called Love review

 

            Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

This weeks episode of Supergirl is a pretty interesting episode to say the least. The episode begins where last week ended as Lex Luthor appears by Nyxlys side. He tells her that he is from the future. The 31st century to be exact as we learn a bit later. He also tells her that he say her die and that in the future they work together as partners but later we find out that Lex thinks of her as something more than just a friend. So with Lex back in the frame and not exactly popular with Nyxly is modern day can he not only win her over but can he help her restore her crystal ball and find the next totem which just so happens to be the Love Totem. We're soon back at the Tower and see that Alex has got something planned for Kelly. A proposal in fact. Wanting to propose on the date of the moment she knew that Kelly was the one for her she goes to try and get everything ready but learns that the venue is booked. Said venue is never booked according to Alex but was it really booked? and are Kelly and Esme in on it?? more on it in a bit. Back at the Tower again and with the search for the next totem in full effect the team come up with a plan of attack to trick Nyxly into coming out of hiding thanks to readings of a fake Love Totem which Lena uses her magic on. Everyone gets to work and the plan seems to be working at first but soon enough we see Nyxly getting the upper hand on everyone. It's a bit of a wild battle that takes a turn for the worst when Lex Luthor turns up and injures Supergirl with a Kryptonite blast. Lex says hello to his sister Lena whose emotions immediately get the better of her which causes the fake totem to explode in Nyxly's hand. The two beam out of the area leaving the Superfriends in some serious thought and trouble. 

We're soon back at the Tower again and everyone again comes up with a plan. This time they plan on using the totems they have to inflict them on Nyxly. J'onn gets to work on accesses the gauntlet on the courage totem. He sees his daughters on Mars. The exact moment he has to overcome is when they're taken from him. He ends up pushing through to pass the gauntlet and with access to the totem's power it's now about getting to Nyxly. It's not long after this that the search for the Love Totem leads everyone to Lisbon Portugal of all places. When Nyxly arrives Lex is not far behind and after another scuffle they learn that the supposed Love Totem was a fake. When this happens Lex and Nyxly again teleport out of the area. 

The episode draws to a close as we see Alex going to the same venue that I mentioned earlier. When she gets there she is in for a surprise as it turns out that it was Kelly who had booked the place. The two share a scene filled with love, sincerity and happiness. Kelly attempts to propose to Alex but gets cut off when Alex finds the Love Totem in her pocket. How did it get there?? and what can they now do it with it?? well it's there as according to records Brainy states that it appears whenever true love is abundant which makes sense. So with the Love Totem in their possession the team attempt to put the plan I mentioned earlier into place. Supergirl and friends soon meet up with Nyxly again and this time things take a good turn for Team Supergirl. Forcing the Humanity Totem onto Nyxly proves fruitful at start and as it looks like it's going to be a success Lex who has a chance to get the Love Totem doesn't take instead he saves Nyxly and teleports them both out of the area. Later back at the Tower Brainy questions Lex's intent and ponders if he should ask the Legion of Superheros about Lex in the future and just what happened to him because he has seemingly changed. Also at the Tower Alex proposes to Kelly who accepts. They are to be married and this leads to everyone celebrating with Kara especially extremely happy for her sister. The episode ends back with Nxyly and Lex as the magical imp begins to take a liking to Lex after he saved her. Lex confesses to her that he loves her which is not like him because he doesn't love anyone, infact he hates everyone he says. Nxyly can't believe what she hears but agrees to just be friends for now after all who knows what can happen in the future right? the episode ends as Lex not only restores the Hope Totem that Supergirl destroyed but we also see the Love Totem being restored but not where it was left. It is seen in the back of Esme's head it fully blossoming as love is strong with Alex and Kelly around Esme. And that was the episode. I really didn't like this one that much. Lex being in love totally feels out of character even if the future was the cause for it all and overall it just didn't flow good and was infact rather boring. It's a shame because only 3 episodes now remain and as of late this show was on quite a roll. Nevertheless this episode wasn't terrible just meh.
