Supergirl 6x16 : Nightmare in National City review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

It's a new week so that means a new episode of Supergirl and with only 4 episodes remaining after this episode things are going to get very interesting indeed. The episode begins with Nia's search for the Dream Totem. She is seen telling Brainy that her investigation has been a total bust thus far. But with that being said she does intend on going to see her sister Maeve who the last time she talked with accused her of not being worthy of the Dream power and heritage. Nia does go to see her sister but she learns that not only has she taken up a new profession but she has even changed her name. She visits her at a school she is teaching at. Inside Maeve tells Nia about the Dream Totem. It is located inside of the Dream Realm. To possess the totem once must be of pure heart, mind and spirit. Nia gets to work on doing some research as we see that Nxyly is also on the hunt for the Dream Totem. At the end of last weeks episode we saw her get a gift from a special admirer who is clearly Lex Luthor. Upon pushing the watch she was gifted with she is given a new suit which also holds inside of it a sort of AI. It speaks like Nyxly and guides her to the Dream Totem and just how she can get to the Dream Realm.

With that side of the episode happening we also have Supergirl and friends dealing with a nightmarish monster conjured by Nyxly. It's extremely strong and proves formidable to the Superfriends. When they can't stop it they create a dome around a part of National City trapping in citizens much to the city officials annoyance. With the monster trapped in the dome we see that Kara has a big interview set up by Andrea. She is to interview high ranking officials from both Kaznia and Corto Maltese who are in National City to finalize the deal agreed upon in last weeks episode. But with all of this being said can Kara actually be there on time for the interview or will Supergirl duties get in the way?? we're soon back with Nia and her sister who are inside of the Dream Realm. Nxyly is not far behind after she gets some help from her AI and a machine that was created by a doctor who is a specialist in dreams. Once inside Nxyly attempts to find the Dream Totem but ends up stumbling upon Nia and her sister. Nia uses her dream powers to signal out the totem which is inside of a Dream Spire. One of many Dream Spires which house the dreams of everyone. When they get to the totem Nxyly is also there and she ends up getting her hands on the totem. But Nia puts up a strong fight and thanks to her sister who gives her a necklace that enhances her powers she blasts Nxyly away knocking her down. She still gets away with the totem however. This entire scene was all overshadowed by the bickering between Nia and her sister. It gets pretty intense both here and later between the sisters and Maeve's true feelings rear their head once again. It's very well acted and very emotional. Two thumbs up here!

The episode draws to a close as the Superfriends learn that the National Guard are set to take down the dome around the city and go inside to take down the nightmare monster. This isn't good and while Brainy and Lena just come up with a device to take the monster back to the Dream Realm can it all be done without Kara who is at her interview?? while at her interview Kara is told that her interviewees are running late so she decides to fly off and help her friends. They do manage to send the monster back to the Dream Realm but as expected when Kara returns to her interview she is told she is too late. We're soon back at Cat Co and see Kara speaking with William. In summary here William basically tells Kara to do what she's got to do. This leads to Kara going to see Andrea in her office. Inside Andrea berates Kara for not only not being there for her very important interview but how she also disappears throughout the day and isn't around the office much. Kara without any real explanation tells Andrea that she quits Cat Co. She tells her that William is going to do her interview the following day and how she's given her other duties to other journalists. Andrea is stunned by this as we see Kara walk off and out of Cat Co. No more reporter Kara is going to be very interesting indeed but with the show wrapping up it makes sense really. The episode ends back with Nyxly who is seen holding the Dream Totem. She is told to place the totem into the hands of the AI she has been using to get it. When she does it's magical energy is seen creating something and it's none other than Lex Luthor himself who is now seemingly working with Nxyly which is going to be very interesting indeed. This was a really quite great episode. Everything from Kara's struggles between her dual identities to Nia and her sister it really was both a entertaining and fascinating watch. More of this please Supergirl, especially now that only 4 episodes remain.
